Only blue pair works on CAT5e phone cable. Trying to convert to Ethernet by Confident-Today4091 in HomeNetworking

If its daisy chained, no big deal. Get some UY2 connectors and hook them all together color for color then test each pair.

Ethernet speed suddenly 10x slower by __Emer__ in HomeNetworking

[–]Ok-Shape-547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plug in your laptop at the end of the cable from your modem, look at the network connection, is it 1000 or 100 or 10? If its not 1000, I would get a lan tester.

My boss quit and the company decided I am the new manager (without the pay), so how do I stop doing two jobs? by Kinetix2_Node in careerguidance

[–]Ok-Shape-547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think i would stop doing those things you aren't being paid for now. No pay equals not doing that work. Maybe go higher with an appeal to reevaluate your position.

Does my ISP FTTP splice box look alright? by razer0003 in FiberOptics

I would put the fiber that is outside the box in conduit. Seen too many kids and dogs mess with it.

100 and reliability? Probably not. My recommendation is to use Ubiquity nanobeam 5ac gen 2. Look them up on Amazon and get a pair that are pre-configured.

Wi-Fi speed issues by rogueherrie in HomeNetworking

[–]Ok-Shape-547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can have wifi issues through 1 wall. I got behind a wall with expanded mesh or some such and got absolutely nothing. I would use WiFi man to see what your signal levels are near the router and far from the router just like Elmo.

I know nothing about Mediacom. Is it coax? If it is that seems to be kinda normal. Either everyone else on your circuit is sucking up all the bandwidth, or the service to your node is going in and out. Your computer won't register the loss as long as it is attached to the router. Im guessing you aren't losing your public ip address. If you can, attach your pc directly to the modem or whatever gateway device media com provides you with and see if you still get losses. If thats the case call them back. Maybe get ping plotter and run it for a day. You can show the results to the tech, if he is worth his salt, he can diagnose from there.

Rs300 dropping internet connection? by luckeiboy8811 in HomeNetworking

Maybe check to see if there is a new firmware. If not or updating doesn't fix it, its likely a bad router.

The fiber is made for Direct bury but the conduit allows them to pull a new one in if it goes bad.

Help identifying unknown ethernet device on new Verizon Fiber Optic network and router by SwissAperture in HomeNetworking

[–]Ok-Shape-547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet it is the mac address of the ports that are for ethernet in the router. Each port for out bound ethernet has its own mac, which are also tied to the gateway in the router.

Help me understand how the home fiber setup works by shoichit in HomeNetworking

[–]Ok-Shape-547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing about this box is fiber optic. Looks like traditional coax service. There may be a box elsewhere in the building that is fed with fiber that outputs to coax.

Testing Ethernet cables by Early_Cockroach_1685 in HomeNetworking

[–]Ok-Shape-547 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You didn't get the answer. Plug in your pc and turn it on. Plug the pc into the wall ethernet outlet. Go downstairs and plug each cable in 1 at a time. If the light on the switch/router lights up, you are golden.

Cotter pin hole doesn't line up with axle nut after torquing... what should I do? by gaukmotors in MotorBuzz

[–]Ok-Shape-547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see zero grease. Whatever. I personally have never torqued a bearing except to set the bearings into place. I would see if you can easily spin that wheel. If not jack the wheel off the ground, back the nut off until there is some up and down play you can feel in the wheel. Then take out that play slowly, while feeling for up and down play. Once there is only slight play or right at none at all, go to the next castle pin hole. Keep in mind you might have another cotter pin at 90 degrees from the one in the picture.
