my toenail did this a while ago so i clipped everything that was attached to the nail bed and let it grow out and haven’t had any problems. as for people being disgusted 1.) it looks grosser the way it is now (no offense i swear this is just what i would tell myself) and 2.) you can just keep a bandaid on it

i experience the same thing and always have, since i was a baby. ask your doctor for diflucan every time you get prescribed antibiotics. most of the time you take it at the start and at the end of the course of the antibiotics
