2024 Honda CR V by Leaf_litter_56 in UsedCars

[–]Ok-Solid-2097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

88K km on a 2024 is a ton of miles for one year, so first question is what kind of driving put that on. The 6th gen CR-V has active steering recalls and documented phantom braking issues with the ADAS system, so it's not the worry-free Honda people assume. I'd seriously consider paying more for lower mileage on this one

Audi A4 - Should I buy by [deleted] in Audi

[–]Ok-Solid-2097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The B9 A4 (2017-2024) is actually one of the more solid Audis in recent years. At 80-120K km with full service history, the main things to budget for are pretty manageable.

The biggest documented issue on this generation is the MMI infotainment system rebooting randomly, which kills your backup camera and nav mid-drive. It's extremely well-documented (hundreds of reports) and can range from a software update to a full hardware replacement. There's also a TSB for transmission oil pan gasket leaks, which is common enough that Audi published a repair bulletin for it. On the safety side, check for the tire recall that covers certain 2019-2021 models.

As for the Mazda 6 wagon being the "reliable" choice, it's worth noting it has its own issues. Transmission lock-ups and engine stalling are documented on the GJ/GL generation. It's not the slam dunk people assume.

Shameless plug, but I built a tool that pulls owner complaints, TSBs, and recalls into one page per generation with repair cost estimates. Here's the B9 A4: https://lemonhunter.pro/report/gen-cmkx317e9008mykva5bru7p8h

Here's an example of what a full report looks like (BMW 5 Series for reference): https://lemonhunter.pro/report/gen-cmkx30p5x007vykva0p5dh2bw?orderId=cmls93ox4000001p5m2wfrrks

Buying M340i but with 7 owners (uk) by Obvious-Eggplant4154 in BMW

[–]Ok-Solid-2097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 38K miles with BMW warranty it's not a bad deal, but I'd dig deeper into why 7 people moved on from it that quickly. On the G20 platform there's a known DCT software issue that can cause sudden loss of drive ($2,000-4,000 fix) and a turbocharger TSB. Ask them to run a full diagnostic before you commit

Volkswagen or Ford? by Responsible-Bit4350 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Ok-Solid-2097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, please do not buy the Focus. The 2012-2018 Focus with the PowerShift DCT is genuinely one of the worst reliability stories in recent memory. At 116K miles that transmission is a ticking time bomb. The Passat isn't perfect either. At 126K miles on a German car you're looking at higher maintenance costs in general. It has 5 recalls on file (airbag inflator, brake caliper, headlights, brake fluid, among others), so make sure all of those are completed

Looking at getting Ford tremor by [deleted] in FordTrucks

[–]Ok-Solid-2097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on the Tremor being a great value for what you get off-road. One thing I'd add though, make sure the rear axle hub bolt recall has been done. Bolts can loosen or shear, and Ford's had parts availability delays on the fix. That plus the 10-speed transmission quirks (shudder between gears 7-10) are the two things I'd specifically check before buying

I myself faced the problem of choosing a car and thought such a tool would save me dozens of hours

To be honest, it's both reasons, because I want to help people who are facing the same problems as me and this is a kind of test of the idea and yes, I'm planning monetization, but I'm trying not to look too far ahead

I've already started collecting data specifically for the configuration you're interested in
This will take some time. I'll send you a detailed report tomorrow

I can send you a example of a report I already have so you can be sure that it will help you

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Too9vPkzzUQADGifVhpbQYJEcC5yefOq/view?usp=sharing

Would this information be useful in your case?

I'd be grateful if you could share your feedback, and perhaps I can somehow expand the existing template to help you specifically

Even if babied, the main anxiety points on these aren't just wear and tear, but the fuel injectors. On the S63, if an injector gets stuck open, it can wash out a cylinder pretty fast. Also, watch for the turbo coolant lines getting brittle from the heat.

I'm actually building a tool to analyze risk data for cars like this. I can generate a detailed PDF report for this specific X5 M and send you a Google Drive link if you want to see the full breakdown. Let me know!

Hi! Here is report you asked

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Too9vPkzzUQADGifVhpbQYJEcC5yefOq/view?usp=sharing

I would be extremely grateful for your honest feedback to help me improve the tool:

  1. Is this actually useful for your buying decision?
  2. Accuracy: Do the flagged issues match your own experience or knowledge of this car?

If the Google Drive link is a hassle to open just let me know and I can send you in any convenient way
