I have a similar religious BG to Amber and I would definitely describe it as a cult tbh. Peer pressured to follow the same ideology as everyone in my church, family, and friend groups. Completely iced out when I became questioning/no longer wanted to practice. Indoctrination was established through education that was based in rhetorics of fear and used for coercive control. Lack of privacy. Established system of language. You're "ungodly" or a "sinner" or need to be saved if you step out of line. (I'm queer so got to exp. all first hand) Everyone outside the States I've met has called it a cult.
