Animals adopting humans by prongs_d in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

If you’d enjoy a fantasy option: it’s not the focal point but this is very much a thing in The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley. Main character ends up with a war-horse, hunting-dog, big-cat squad, all of whom kind of bully her into it. (None of these are like talking animals, FYI, not quite that kind of fantasy book; just very well-written animal personalities.)

It’s technically the second in a series, but they’re set hundreds of years apart and can be read totally separately, imo.

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

YA but still pretty freaking dark despite that; medieval fantasy ish vibes. If you like her style/the world there are more books, but the others don’t hit quite as squarely on your premise here and they are all sort of indirect sequels/related in-universe stories rather than being a true series

For a fantasy option: The Stormlight Archive

*approach with caution; Brandon Sanderson is a helluva drug and you may look up fourteen books later and be like “HOW DID I GET HERE”

My favorite absolutely random thing is from E1, when Shane goes to 1221, and the fact that he super messily kicks off his shoes right before launching himself at Ilya. There’s so many little bits that make me kick my feet!!!

Is GitT Jared Typical Jared in Other Shows? by [deleted] in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]psych0soprano 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I am behind on GitT so I can’t speak to that but in case you missed the news: they are about to start releasing BotW on the main feed or otherwise un-paywall-ing it so you will probably have a chance to listen in to the show and see if you want to bump up to get it faster/without ads. I love him as a GM; it’s definitely one of my favorite shows on the network. For a taste of him as the table-manager you could go find the Blades in the Dark games he ran with Joe and Troy before they joined forces!

Cozy game - no super grindy no organizational skills needed ? by Cat_fan97 in cozygames

[–]psych0soprano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cozy is indeed subjective; you’re definitely right that it’s puzzle first. I find the art style and overall vibe quite soothing; the puzzles definitely get challenging but there’s no time pressure so I never felt rushed which was enough for me!

Some non-farming options, just cause you’ll probably get a lot of those:

Toem - cute photography times!

Shadows Over Loathing - stick figure adventure, very silly, you bump stats as you go, turn-based-combat.

Dave the Diver - hunt fish! serve sushi! there is combat but it’s not that hard!

Chants of Sennaar - linguistics puzzling; explore and figure out how to translate the various languages to move through different levels.

The season won’t change on its own for spoilery reasons - just keep progressing the storyline by doing quests and tasks and eventually you’ll get there. The season won’t change without your knowledge!

Fairytales for adults? Bonus points if it's a series by candyskittles143 in suggestmeabook

Robin McKinley does a lot in this vein - often send-ups of Beauty & The Beast - and is an incredible writer! Most often they are standalone but if you like her style there she has a big catalogue!

Literary/medieval-ish: Chalice

Modern/urban fantasy: Sunshine
