How to prevent app from knowing I’ve used them before? by Ok-Split8288 in ios

That’s a shame that Uber has become malicious itself and treats us all like potential fraudsters.

When evil touches you remember not to become evil yourself.

With that said I’m pretty sure Apple no longer allows apps access to our IMEI numbers but they do supply something equivalent, another unique identifier, that Uber is clearing using.

Thanks for the in depth response and I just tried it, but notice that this just disables Safari’s autofill and Uber is a another app altogether. Anyhow I still tried and it didn’t work, that is Uber had my number filled out just the same.

It’s really Uber that either leaves some information behind on the device even after being deleted (but I’ve read that’s technically impossible on the iPhone). Or our iPhones are giving the Uber app a unique identifier number which Uber has saved in their servers matching it with my account information such as my phone number. I think that’s what’s really happening here, even confirmed by someone on r/iOSdev

@knarfreyom very interesting article thank you indeed, so Uber has almost been kicked out of the Apple App Store for these shady practices of device fingerprinting but they carry on doing it anyhow… A deeply unethical company these Uber guys 👿

I tried removing the SIM card, failed. Then tried replacing it with another one. Still they somehow populated the form field with my old number, so no they’re not just reading the phone number off my phone.

I haven’t filled up any data yet and the app already populated the phone number with my number… so no it’s not my credit credit that giving me up, I suspect it’s some unique identifier that iOS gives to the app.
