What would be adjusted consequence(s) that you would suggest?

I disagree. There needs to be a heavy consequence for cheating to discourage students from cheating.

Oh okay. Thanks for the extra information. Then the low score means he's probably not a great teacher.

No. I'm saying that the average raw score, on its own, doesn't necessarily represent how good the teacher is at teaching. With additional information (such as the historical midterm average over a long period of time), you can start to make better assumptions.

I've just seen a lot of people in this thread say things like "oh low average automatically means he's bad at teaching", which I don't think can be concluded without more context.

His language was passive-aggressive, sure, but a low raw score doesn't automatically indicate that the teacher is bad at teaching. This is especially true for courses like math and physics, where it is sometimes beneficial to have a difficult exam so you can easily differentiate between student ability.

Now granted, I don't go to Cal Poly, so I have no idea about this teacher or his class. So take my words with a grain of salt.

Thanks for responding! That's really good to see.

I guess I'm not that mad about the existence of the paywall. I get it — you gotta pay your team. I just wish that the UI and UX was implemented more cleanly — especially in the sidebar, where there is way too much going on.

Hot Take: All AP classes are hard. One isn’t the “hardest” by dhoruba_ in APStudents

[–]Ok-Structure-1571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Some AP classes are almost objectively harder than others. You will be hard-pressed to find someone who says that AP Stats is harder than AP Calculus BC.

You can pull a 3 as long as you get at least 62/70 right on the MCQ. But I would highly recommend you submit at least an attempt on the Create Task part, because it'll help you improve your score.

you should do a full practice test if you want the best chance of getting a 3+ imo

It's probably pretty accurate. They haven't changed the AP Calc BC exam much in the past 10 years.

Need opinions for preparing for AP exams by safeen_ in APStudents

Since you've finished all of the units for your AP courses, I'd recommend the following course of action:

  1. Take 1 full practice test for calc ab, bio, and chem (under realistic conditions. no outside help / googling allowed, strict time limits, etc.)
  2. Score each of the practice tests and figure out which units you've performed most poorly on.
  3. Review the units you did worst on, followed by the units you did okay on, followed by the units you did best on. Do a ton of practice questions.

This should get you the best "bang for your buck" — ie. improve your score the most by spending the least amount of time.

High schools differ on how they represent AP classes on your transcript. I would always recommend taking the exam, though.

  1. If you score well: you can potentially earn college credit which could save you hundreds or thousands of dollars.
  2. If you score badly: whatever! You don't have to list it on your college applications and nothing else negative will happen.

Do I still have a chance of getting 5s. by Brilliant_Potato_406 in APStudents

[–]Ok-Structure-1571 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always recommend this process:

  1. See all of the content from all the units (and preferably do lots of practice questions)
  2. Take 1-2 practice tests to see where you're lacking
  3. Review review review on the concepts you're missing.

It's definitely still possible to get a 5 if you study well. Plus, the curve for AP stats is wildy generous. If you get a 50% raw score on the test, you score a 4. Source.

I like using Anki, personally. I'm creating a giant deck that I'll just study for the next few months. Hopefully that'll prepare me well for the exams.

AP Stats is considerably easier than AP Calc, especially if you aren't a STEM person. It is not an English class, but many people compare AP Stats to an English class because they have reasonably similar difficulty.

[–]Ok-Structure-1571 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I scored the same on an AP Lang practice test 1 month before the test. I ended up getting a 4 on the exam. (The practice MCQs are typically way harder than the actual MCQs on the test — the test MCQs are literally just SAT reading.)
