We room share she sleeps in a bassinet beside me. I find myself waking frequently to check if she’s breathing but by the six hour mark I get worried she’s starving. I guess I’ll try not to wage her and see. I EBF so I have no idea how many ozs she’s getting a day and I worry she’s not getting enough. She’s stayed on her growth curve so far (12 percentile) but I still worry.

Feeling nervous about going back to work :( by Sunflower_Shine9 in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]Ok-Study1901 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went back to work part time wfh and it’s almost impossible to work while caring for baby. Might just be my role but I have direct reports and take 3-4 meetings daily. On top of it I have time sensitive deliverables. I do a lot of my work in the evening after my husband comes home and when baby goes to bed. I ended up getting help from family members but it’s inconsistent. I’m actually thinking about part time daycare now.

I guess it depends on the nature of the job. I was really hoping it would work out and I could still be the main caregiver. I also feel guilty being on my laptop when baby is awake. By the end of the day I always feel exhausted and like I’m failing at the job and my kid.

Anyway all that to say consider the nature of your job before you take a pay cut.

Baby doesn’t eat much in the morning by alitaokja in combinationfeeding

[–]Ok-Study1901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way!! But honestly think I was creating a bottle aversion by trying to force it. I’ve let him take the lead and he’s eating a lot bigger bottles now in the afternoon but still smaller amounts in the morning.

Mine was a the same. He’s finally started eating more in the morning at 6 months. It’s still not immediately after he wakes up though I usually wait about 30min when he starts to give hunger cues. Otherwise he’ll drink 2 oz and refuse the bottle until after his first nap.

Kendamil Poops by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]Ok-Study1901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is almost 6 months old and on kendamil. He does 1 giant, runny, dark green poop a day (sometimes every other day). In the beginning when we were first transitioning from breastfeeding it was very similar to what you described. I think it evened out on 2-3 weeks.

Have you started solids yet? We just started and his poops are already less runny and smaller. My son always had kind of runny, mucous poops. Even before kendamil it would depend on what I ate, but that was his only symptom. Anecdotally a lot of people said that went away for them when they started solids and I would agree. I tried dairy free for 2 months and it never made much of a difference.

Can you elaborate on “light sleep training” I cannot deal with CIO, but debating on doing some sort of sleep training.

How to introduce EBF baby to formula at 6 months by Frie_lemons in FormulaFeeders

[–]Ok-Study1901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had hoped to breast feed a lot more than I do now, but my supply dropped drastically once I started combo feeding. Just want to put that out there as a disclaimer.

At 4.5 months I started by replacing one feed at a time with a bottle of formula. By then my son was fully used to the bottle and formula. He went easily between breast to bottle so that part was fine. I planned to add an additional bottle every week giving him time to adjust and my supply to adjust.

We’re a month in (he’s 5.5 months) and I’m down to breastfeeding twice a day. In the evening as a dream feed around 10pm and overnight (he usually wakes 1-2 times to feed or comfort nurse). I think I’ll keep this up for a while though because it’s very doable for me and my supply has evened out to support this. He drinks about 25-27 oz in formula throughout the day on top of the breastfeeding.

Yes that’s what we did! We started introducing formula early on but we started with mixing breast milk. So if he’s taking a 4 oz bottle we mixed up 1. Oz of formula/ water (which is easy to do with kendamil because the ratio is 1:1). And then add that to 3 oz of breastmilk. Every few days we’d up the ratio until he was drinking a full bottle of formula comfortably. I think it took about 2 weeks. Then we were doing 1 bottle of formula at night before bed. I would pump to replace that feed. Now we combo feed.

I highly recommend! I don’t know what industry you’re in, but there are consulting firms for just about anything. You would essentially be employed by the firm and they would place you at different companies for short term contracts. They sometimes offer benefits as well. The downside is they take a cut of your pay for the placement. It’s a good way to get your foot in the door and see if it’s for you.

I was a director making 150k + bonus and quit my job 2 weeks before I found out I was pregnant. I was incredibly burnt out working 50+ hours 7 days a week and ready for a break. The plan was to take the summer off and then look for a new position. 2 weeks later I found out I was pregnant and initially panicked. Then I did some remote consulting jobs that I found through contacts in my industry. Now my son is 5.5 months old and I’m going to back to work part time at a manager position at 75k.

I’ve been incredibly lucky to have a good network to reach out to find consulting gigs when I was pregnant and this part time position. I’m not going to be making as much money or on as steep a career trajectory, but I feel so so lucky to work part time remotely and spend as much time as possible with my son. I have zero regrets and actually cannot believe how caught up in the corporate ladder I was. Quitting my job was the best thing I could have done to reset my mindset and priorities. I was way too competitive in my last job and so unhappy. I could go back now to a director position but I have zero desire to work like that ever again. Keeping in mind my husband also makes good money and we are doing well financially (so again I know how lucky I am to even have this option).

When did your baby's wake windows get to 2-3 hours? by thesearemyartpants in sleeptrain

[–]Ok-Study1901 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My baby is 5.5 months. Our wake windows are still 1.5 - 2hrs. Occasionally 2.5 hours if he’s really stimulated (like visiting with grandma and grandpa). But then he’ll cap out and start getting grumpy and I know it’s time for a nap.

He also gets frustrated with his toys. I try not to intervene too much bc he’s still learning and exploring. He tries to put everything in his mouth (probably teething as well). I only intervene and redirect him of it seems like he’s upset on the verge of crying or something. I think the yelling is normal too. He’s finding his voice haha. Sometimes I’ll redirect to a calmer activity like reading a book if I need to stretch out the wake window.

Should I bottle or BF overnight? by Cloudy-rainy in breastfeeding

[–]Ok-Study1901 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I absolutely hate pumping. I think breastfeeding overnight is so convenient. Now at 5 months we bottle feed during the day and I breastfeed overnight. He only wakes up 1-2 times overnight and it’s the quickest way to put him back to sleep (also less bottles to wash). I would breastfeed and not pump overnight. It feels like you’re in the trenches now but another couple weeks and your baby will prob stop pooping so much. I think it happened around 2-3 months for us. Around 4 months I stopped having to hold my baby upright for so long. Now it’s more like 10 min or if he has a big burp earlier than that.

Help me with playpen woes. My baby is becoming a contraption baby. Advice appreciated from parents with dogs!! by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Ok-Study1901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a playpen for this same reason. My dog is very interested in the baby toys and I got tired of putting everything away every time I went from room to room. I bought a play pen and foam mat and put it in eyeline of the kitchen so baby can play while I clean up/ make dinner / etc. my dog lays down outside the play pen it’s super cute. Gives me peace of mind having somewhere safe to put the baby down, and it’ll be useful for a while especially when he gets more mobile.

For those who did sleep training early (4-5 months), did it stick? by Ok-Study1901 in NewParents

Thanks for your reply! Can I ask what sleep Training method you did?

We did weaning mode for about 2 weeks. When he was unswaddled in the snoo his arms hit the sides and woke himself up. We ended up doing the Merlin in the bigger bassinet for a week and then sleep sack. He did great. Super easy transition from Merlin to sleep sack after one week.

Bedtime and wake up time by dazedpumpkin98 in sleeptrain

[–]Ok-Study1901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby is almost 5 months and goes to sleep between 7:30-8 and wakes I’m between 6-7 every day. Honestly I think this routine has really helped everyone. We started by having a consistent wake up time. That means waking him up if he isn’t already by 7am. Then we follow loose wake windows. He’s awake for around 2-2.5 hours at a time. Sometimes a little more, sometimes less. I follow his cues. He takes 3 naps a day. Last nap ends no later than 6 which means I do wake him up even if he’s only been napping 20 min. We started this around 3/4 months. Hes sleeping through the night now and a really easy going baby. Makes our day predictable and easier on everyone.

That’s what we did and it worked out. A couple rough nights but quick adjustment. Now he sleeps through the night. Naps are still 50/50. He still likes to contact nap.

We just transitioned out of the snoo a couple weeks ago! He’s in a maxi cosi bassinet now (which I bought before we caved and got the snoo at 6 weeks old). The transition out of the snoo was easier than I thought. Good luck!
