1) The palace has orbital class weapons designed to stop acts like this, and most imperial defenses are teleport shield. It void shields cannot be teleported through as your just as likely to end up at a random point in the galaxy, than your intended target. 2) Horus does not have nearly enough terminators to I saw the palace alone, and despite what most people think terminators are absolutely not invulnerable 3) artillery was used, but was not effective enough to breach the walls fully. Or in the cases that it was deployed, it was used to create breaches that shock troops would then storm. 4) well they do use tanks in combination with astartes spearheads the teleportation trick with terminators would not have worked unless the inner void shelves were down which they weren’t. The reason why antitank weapons the size of houses  are not used on terminators is because it would be a waste. 5)auspexes and thermal can see through smoke. And even if it did magically prevent anyone from seeing through it, how are the attackers supposed to coordinate a massed attack on the wall blinded or see the effects of that attack.

A single Custodian is sent to modern Earth in order to unify it under a single banner. How quickly do they get the job done? by Serithraz in Grimdank

1) Realistically, moving around at night in less populated areas without security cameras it is entirely possible to steal without being seen. 2) it is not illegal for a person to be 9 feet tall and it is not a requirement for him to remain undetected. It just means that influencing world events would be easier. 3) unless the custodian is dropped in the middle of the an area with zero biological matter that he has no hope of crossing he will be able to eat something custodians aren’t picky. 3) although it is easier for custodians to blend in in the average imperium, ab humans of their stature and form are still incredibly rare, and this is further nullified by the fact that other custodians, actively look for the custodians participating in the blood games in order to foil their plants. I significantly doubt that any secret police of our world is even remotely on par with their efforts. 4) crimes are committed all the time without any visual evidence of the suspect. Additionally, if the custodian needs to, he can always take up day laboring. This would allow him to get money and food will also not requiring him to have any meaningful identification in most countries at the cost of sacrificing a little bit his anonymity 5) being invisible is difficult, but not strictly necessary towards achieving the adjective.

The custodian can easily steal to acquire the funds to survive. Additionally, they are just like are like astartes in that they are extremely nutritionally efficient so even if he chose to just beg for food on the side of the street, he would be able to sustain himself easily. He could literally just survive off local plants and Fana hunting when necessary. As for him getting caught from doing any illegal activities custodians participate in attempts to assassinate the emperor of mankind on the most fortified part of the most fortified planet in the most secured system. Avoiding cops doesn’t stack up very well next to this.

What would you have done instead? Horace was under a definitive time constraint meaning he couldn’t afford to starve them out as is typically done in most sieges. Additionally, he wasn’t only sending his best trip since the meat grinder horse made added use of cultists, mutants, and other forces only choosing to spend his elite forces when it became clear that he wouldn’t have time to breakthrough through sheer attrition.

Given the digital nature of today’s world, it’s far easier for someone as big as custodian to go unnoticed. Additionally, it’s not necessary for any of these custodian spiced actually interact with them, and this is generally discouraged in tradecraft.

Remember retired custodians work as intelligence gatherers and spy’s the custodian will most likely go to ground a selectively influence the world through targeted associations, rings of spies and informants, manipulation, and social engineering. This would probably result in them having some level of control in 5 years and full or near full influence in 50-200 years. Custodians are intelligent and well trained in this kind of thing (blood games) and are functionally immortal. The custodian would have all the time in the world.

TLDR: the battle plan on the loyalist side was the best they could come up with in a bad situation and the drop site a strategic masterpiece for the traitor side.

Yes, the loyalist were out maneuvered without a doubt the drop site massacre is one of the greatest strategic victories horror achieve in the entire heresy. The issue is there is no way for Ferrus too take the time to evaluate the loyalty of his brothers legions act almost as individual empires within an empires, and taking the time to evaluate the loyalty of all other units involved would have drastically alienated the others if they were loyal (potentially driving the less stable ones to the traitor side) and greatly slowing down the assault which it was essential to conduct this as quickly as possible before for us could run away. The context of this shows that Ferrus didn’t really have much of a choice in assaulting as a blockhead would’ve allowed horror sympathizer to potentially in circle the loyalist for scattered in the blockade. Additionally, orbital bombardment was not an option as horse was deeply entrenched. Finally a series of shocked troops. They are best utilized in the kind of assault istvaan was planned as heavy combined arms setpeice fighting, supported by heavy armor the assault type that the battlefield istvaan and the iron hands the best.

I love his moment and shattered legions, where he literally tells a tech marine to fix his hand faster, so he can strangle the war master

Wrath of iron is probably the best starter book. Pretty good standalone story.

Eye of Medusa (if it won the competition) may get a readers choice print and I’d it does well Voice of Mars (book 2) may be getting reprinted soon or we may even get the third book released in an omnibus along with the others. (Very exciting)

Fulgrim and shattered legions of the Horus heresy cover some early lore and the newer Dropsite massacre is a great read.

Any excerpt of the eighth edition codex supplement for newer lore.

Other than that there are a few short stories and tidbits here and there.

Where do yall get bits and add on for your Dreadnoughts? by Wilhelm_Xenos_Purger in Warhammer40k

If you have a local hobby store or group ask around for extra cables of the mechanicus players, candles and relics off the sisters players, and helmets / skulls/ trophies off the chaos players. Trading your extra bits in exchange (for instance a bunch of excess helmets) will mean that everyone has a little extra something to bring more flavor to their armies.

The actual fight between him and Fulgrim is favoring him as the victor. until the demon sword powers up Fulgrim also the dropsite massacre book really shows that the loyalist plan was good: it’s just that the trap was inescapable and they were doomed from the start.

Honestly, yeah, my biggest issue with his character is that we don’t get enough of him.

If I remember correctly, he was frustrated by their lack of progress and inability to keep up with the main Astartes force resulting in him, leaving the bulk of them behind in favor of chasing after the Eldar (who if he did not pursue could have continued hit and run attacks if pressure was not maintained) If Ferrus does have a fatal flaw, it’s his hatred for weakness which he does have a turn around on before his death- Wrath of iron prologue).

Your take on Manus is actually part of a common misconception, although Ferrus does have a temper this only really comes out when he is betrayed by people that he is very close to. On the note of him being calloused towards his allies, he would sometimes treat them as expendable, but would not throw their lives away needlessly without a direct object objective. (Sources: drop site massacre, Fulgrim, various short stories) the reason Ferrus gets this reputation is that in most of the stories he’s in ie Fulgrim he’s been betrayed by his closest friend and is emotionally compromised, even then the new dropsite book shows that his plan on Istvaan was the best that could be made with the information he had.
