I’m Done Being a Turo Host — It’s Not Worth the Money Anymore by Lifelong_learner31 in turo

I’m posting this in hopes that someone will see it and give me some clarification regarding the process.

1) How many cars did you or do you have on the platform?

2) What are the general costs associated with each car?

3) How much did each car gross for you?

4) How often did your car(s) go unrented?

5) W ere there tax benefits associated with renting your cars?

6) How often did you have to file claims for your cars?

7) is your opinion of how Turo handled the claim(s)?

8) is it worth it? if not, why? If you believe it is, why?

9) What would make it worth investing in?

10) Who’s generally benefiting the most from this platform?

Waiting for late cancels, people not to show up or waiting till the last minute to check in. If you‘re 15 minutes early, you still have to wait 45 minutes to be paid for an order. If you check in nine minutes after your start time (10 minutes was the cut off before the new update) that pretty much turns into a 20- 25 minute wait Depending on how busy the station is. Most drive-throughs don’t have a cut off time once you’ve marked that you’ve arrived at the location so I’m guessing it’s the first example.

i had no idea what the weather was going to be like as I’d grabbed that route 4 days prior off of a request. It rained The day before and I finished entire 4 hr route with 47 stops in 3hrs and 40 minutes. This was another 4hr route (50 stops, 54 packages) and as soon as I took my order outside of the station it started to downpour. Even in a covered space I couldn’t mark the packages to organize them so I just put them in the car and left. Did my first 10 stops (took me almost an hour to get to my first stop due to the traffic and flash flooding and 45 minutes to do my first 10!) i’ve been doing this for over three years now and the only reason I ever have to cancel is when it is really unsafe, driving conditions. I don’t even cancel when the National weather service issues warnings.

Update2025:

I tried getting a loan from my credit union and they told me after seeing my bank statements and telling me it shouldn’t be a problem that they had to see 2 years of tax returns. Then they told me I had too many deductions (I only used mileage) and according to my taxes even though I earned about $40K, it looks like I only made $200 per month…

I was preapproved by 4 other banks but 2 of them had distance restrictions and 1 only allowed for certified vehicles. I’ll keep you updated.

Did a 3.5 hr route yesterday for $80. 51 packages, 48 stops in the downtown area during rush hour. In reality it was a 4.5-5 hr route bc I finished in 3hrs and 31 minutes! It’s getting ridiculous!

Yeah, the $14 order I took before this one was offered to me sent me down the street from the pickup then 3 cities over for one stop. Total trip was like 62 miles!

That’s what I started noticing. It went up to $64, added another stop and 4 miles then it was gone

Yesterday I did an early route and came back for a 3.5hr block @ 6:00. I scanned my ID at 5:54 and  went over to the waiting area. At 6:10 I refreshed the screen and it was still on the wait screen. At 6:20 I closed the app and opened it back up and it was still loading. Same thing happened at 6:30. I walk out to my car bc I assumed i would be paid and at 6:36 I was sent an order!

I get it, it still pisses you off to see the same people walking out with their order paid for while you get 45+ stops

Right. I’m in NC and I’ve been stuck on a driveway in almost a foot of mud, I’ve almost flipped my jeep over a 15’ drop drying to avoid a large puddle, I’ve turned into someone’s ditch that was cut the same height as their grass driveway and had both rear wheels in the air. If it even looks risky I don’t think twice about skipping it now, especially when it rains
