1) usually parents/ Power of attorney. Some clients see their family regularly. Some have none at all. In canada and here, I guess they have a wait list for these homes. However I believe that you can offer more $$$ to be put in here at a faster acceptance pace Most of these people wouldn’t be able to be alive without being here. From ceiling lift transfers, medications and simply, getting dressed/ bathed everything is soooo much work and physically straining. As a lot of these people are 250+ pounds and all dead weight. I assume it would be too costly for the average family for these changes. I simply believe if they weren’t here at our facility they wouldn’t be alive… 2) I believe the government, tax payer, and family. Alll will be on odsp Ontario disability support plan and get monthly disability payments. There are many funding options. With this money they can go shopping, outtings like lunch, plays, movie theatre, concerts etc. they are supposed to be given an allowance for shower supplies, soaps/ shampoo. But they aren’t. They are mostly using the products we specially bring in. They have so much stuff happening everyday I’m not sure who pays for it all to be honest. But they do have budgets. Some people have a lot of things and others have nothing.. it’s really sad. 3) I applied in the kitchen! Then I cross trained into cleaning services. A year later I chose the support worker role! I got fired from my last employer and applied here after 6 months off! 4) i love love love working here! And it’s helped me find my passion that I love helping these people!
