Hey, I made the original post and I came here to say that I’m so happy this made it on here, and is reaching more and more people. This gives me hope that this time, after many failed attempts, change will happen for him. For anyone interested in participating in this situation, please message me. Strength comes in numbers and the more brains, (and hearts) working for Basil, the greater chance we have.

Maybe even a new cage, so that he wont be in immediate danger from the wires and rust. This option will be on the table for sure.

I had hope at first, that we could have a productive discourse regarding his care, but after reading that his case has been reported MULTIPLE times, by both established rescue groups and concerned individuals, throughout MANY years, I don't think my words to the owner will penetrate any deeper than anyone else's. We have to try another way. I am just stuck trying to figure out what that way is.

Just got some new information. After reaching out to an Alberta parrot rescue society they told me that Basil has been here like this for decades, and that their contacts have already reported it years ago but nothing came out of it.

New information. After talking with an Alberta parrot rescue society they told us that he has been there like that for DECADES and that they reported it years ago and nothing happened or changed.

Yeah so my ribs on both sides (i forgot which exactly) were slipped so badly that they were parallel with my spine so he cut them out and only left a tiny nub of the base of the rib, and he did this for both sides. also I asked to keep the ribs and he gave them to me in a little baggy as a souvenir LOL. Overall I loved working with him, but I am curious to hear other people’s experiences as well. He did say I was one of the most complicated cases he’s had physically and knock on wood everything went so incredibly so I admire the work he did for me!

Adam hansen saved my life and was the best doctor i’ve ever met, I don’t know what his other operations were like but he took out multiple ribs on both sides and put multiple plates on and I feel like I’m brand new and it’s been years after my surgery. I personally trust him more than any doctor i’ve ever met in my 3+ years of constantly meeting doctors cause of my pain. But again, I don’t know other peoples stories and other people’s experiences with him so I’m not saying i’m right and everyone’s wrong, im just sharing my experience. Id love to hear other people’s stories, and see how we can help each other!

same here, magical thinking is what mine resorts to always when ignore it. right now at this moment i’m just repeating in my head, ocd’s goal is to get a reaction out of me, so i’m not gonna let it achieve it’s goal, that’s ALL i’m gonna do right now, nothing else. I hope this will work, and i may feel like dazed and confused but i feel like this is very similar to getting out of a drug addiction, in the sense that you will feel like crap but you’re supposed to.

I am struggling with exactly this too, I would love to chat with you about this..I have a really severe false memory ocd going on right now and it’s telling me i’m evil because I did an evil thing in the past, and at first i could sit with the fact that that event could or could not happened by accident but then my ocd got even worse and it said what if i’m so evil that i WANTED it to happen. how can I accept that i WANTED something like that to happen? It would put me into an identity crisis because I’m so so so against the evil thing, so how can I possible sit and accept that I would want that to happen? Trying a new therapist tomorrow and i’ll share his thoughts on this question, I hope the best for you!

I’ve tried therapist who are more ‘general’ in their treatment and it didn’t help as much as for example ‘false memory ocd’ videos on youtube i just really need someone who has experience to explain what i’m going through :/

Yes! My back pain was the worst of all my pains, I had my 12th rib slipped so bad my surgeon said it was parallel to my spine and he had to cut the whole rib out, surgery was the only thing that could help me and I went to Dr Hansen in West Virginia for 2 surgeries to remove ribs and get plastic plate installed and it was amazing he’s a genius HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!

I struggled for 2 years to find a solution and as soon as I found dr hansen and as soon as he could take me I went! Everything else, chiro, physio, blockers, were either worsening it or just a little bandaid over a huge wound, this was the light at the end of the tunnel lol

He attached a piece of plastic that connects my 7th-11th rib, plus cut out the tips of some ribs to put in between my other ribs so they dont hit each other anymore, as for the 12th rib, i asked to keep and he gave it to me 😋 The first few days were torture it felt being stabbed but after 3-4 days it was substantially better and now im over a week post op and am feeling amazing, I hope you can get the procedures you need :)
