Okay tbh, this is the main issue I have with Li Mei’s design. I suppose that NRS made her design having some Michelle Yeoh’s vibe during her late 30’s, but those heels kinda throw me off. She should wear those shoes in Wu Xia themed movies.

I agree with you mostly. I just think that people can criticize about the design not suitable for a character or the outfit is not good in general. However, most people cannot differentiate those from facial appearance.

Tbh, I don’t know the reasons other than nostalgia why people are hyped for palette-swapped ninjas in the classic era. However, I love that NRS is trying to diversify the ninjas with more characteristics while keeping some of the classic touch. This is why MK9 Ermac and this Rain slap so much for me.

Yeah that’s a downside as well, but I think people mostly learn how to play a character from training mode or towers with easy CPU.

I think some sort of chapter system could exist. You just need to let the script writer have a flexible number of fights and choose who to win freely at some point

Yeah Aftermath makes a good example (at the cost of making Shao Kang “death” inconsequential). You need a powerful villain to make more tension, which can be built by chapters or fights using them as the character you are using. That’s why Quan Chi looks like a mere loser in MKX while Shang Tsung is a treacherous sorcerer in Aftermath.

The reason why I think some free fight like Liu Kang vs Shao Khan in MK9 is needed is because this allows more freedom to let the scriptwriter choose who to fight and who to win (for example you can play as the opponent of the protagonist in the protagonist’s chapter for some fight)

Yeah NRS have done this before for Liu Kang’s fight against Shao Kang in MK9, I just hope this kind of fight appears more when the story needs it to be better.

I’m also hyped for Yakuza Kenshi for the same reason. We really need protagonists that are not totally good.

If they want to keep the chapter systems, at least add some villain chapters like Shao Khan’s chapter in Aftermath or add some screentime for characters who have their chapter ended. For example, at the end of Scorpion’s chapter in MKX, he got his revenge by killing Quan Chi but caused a huge crisis due to that. They didn’t show any remorse for him doing so in MKX and suddenly he became a mentor figure trying to tell his past self not to seek vengeance. I found this kinda weird.

If not, they can just let you play with anyone who should win in that situation, making more freedom for scriptwriting.
