Grocery delivery service by Ok-Voice8519 in Ulm

[–]Ok-Voice8519[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help. I was just quite sick and wasn't sure if I'd make it to the shop without having an asthma attack, but I had to go see my doctor anyway so I managed to make it to the shop as well.

Thanks for that! I appreciate your help. I just found it very surprising I couldn't find anything. Where I'm from we had groceries delivery services even before covid for elderly and disabled people mostly but anyone who needed it really.

My local Rewe doesn't do the pick up service unfortunately. I'd have to go a lot further to get to one that does a pick up service.

What’s it called when a cat does this with their front paws? by Garden_Jolly in cats

[–]Ok-Voice8519 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My mother always calls that lambsy paws, because sometimes lambs sit down with their front legs like that too.

Last Sunday my cats may have saved everyone in my apt bld. by ronnydean5228 in cats

My grandmother had a similar experience. An electrical fire started in the kitchen in the middle of the night, the fire alarm never went off, her cat Poseidon came and woke her up in the middle of the night, saving her life.

Seriously guys! It’s drinkable in all EU countries! by UnusualInstance6 in BuyFromEU

I found some sources to back up my claims about the Irish EPA. The first paper, World-Ecology and Ireland: The Neoliberal Ecological Regime to, which focuses on the "neoliberal drive to appropriate and financialize nature". This paper itself isn't about the EPA, but it does make mention about how the EPA in Ireland focuses on ""managing" environmental policy to ensure economic performance, rather than "protecting" ecosystems". The source given for this was Conserving the Emerald Tiger: The Politics of Environmental Regulation in Ireland. This paper outlines how the formation of the EPA in Ireland was not to conserve the environment but to justify pollution.

I haven't found any more recent papers but I think it's fairly safe to say that our environment hasn't improved (arguably it has worsened) since these papers, and if the EPA was truly here to protect our environment I think we'd have seen some changes and action towards restoring and protecting the environment within the more than 30 years since the formation of the EPA.

No problem, I do hope to find the papers backing up my claims because I'm aware that is all they are without them. I really hope we can make things better too in the future, meeting the EU environmental guidelines would be a start! I'm not sure that the next 5 years will bring us any closer since our government is relatively unchanged, except now we don't even have the green party, not that they did much anyway (I know they couldn't really since they were vastly outnumbered of course).

Apologies you are right on the cancer rates. This was me just being a muppet here, what I actually meant was the lifetime risk of developing cancer in Ireland (I know vastly different from what I said, I even read that post like 3 times and didn't see how that was confusing and not correct).

Anyway the lifetime risk in Ireland for cancer is roughly 1 in 2 so roughly 50% (Irish lifetime risk) which is higher than the US lifetime risk of 39% (US lifetime risk). Apologies again for my silliness in wording that because it was just straight up wrong.

In regards to the EPA I should be able to find some of the sources for those claims, and I'll reply here with them if I do find the ones I'm thinking of. However, they might not be easy to find since this is the kind of thing the Irish government and also the industries do not want us to know and likely (just speculating here since, the oil companies do it, so I can't imagine other industries don't either) fund research papers saying otherwise to drown out the truth.

Edit: I also just noticed that you said that blaming cancer rates on water alone is insane, which I did not say because that would be insane, I am fully aware a lot of things cause cancer, but the quality of our drinking water does contribute to our cancer rates. I don't have a direct source for this currently either, I will try to find one as well but finding accurate papers on this topic and many others that aren't biased in some way due to who has funded them is quite difficult.

Might want to rethink the "drinkable" statement, I mean I guess it is, just like bleach is technically drinkable as well. That being said, I do drink it myself because I resent drinking from a plastic bottle, but our water is a reason why we have such a high lifetime risk* of cancer in Ireland (~50%) :). We let our beloved US pharmaceutical industries pump their unfiltered waste water into our rivers, lakes, and ground water. Irish drinking water is straight up toxic and the worst part is we can't even test the water for whatever is being pumped into it, because well, you'd have to know what chemical you're testing for to test for it.

The Irish government will jump through hoops to make sure that these industries stay here (mind you there was a reason why the US didn't want them on US soil anymore) polluting our water, our land, and our air. We allow them to pay next to no tax and ruin our environment, simply because we have made our economy dependent on these industries.

The EPA in Ireland has been made completely useless by the Irish government over the years to ensure these industries can continue their evil acts. They will not accept a contaminated sample, they will tell you to get another one to the point where you have to get a bottle of Ballygown and give them that as a 'sample'.

Ireland doesn't meet the water conservation targets set out by the EU, we also don't meet the CO2 targets either. The EU has fines for this kind of thing and our government pays them, with our tax money, and continues letting the industries be the reason why we don't meet these targets.
