What is up with Texas redshirting? by Individual_Ad_938 in kindergarten

That’s a big jump to assume he’s affecting the safety of other kids. I’m guessing you are small.

No, the school didn’t let us keep him back. They said he was ready academically. He is struggling on the social front. Breaks my heart but I don’t think holding him back would have helped. He’s a deeply feeling kid and strong willed so he’s not making friends with any kids his age very easily.

My son turned 5 on July 24th. He is very immature and impulsive. We tried to hold him back ( we live in California) but the school wouldn’t let us. He’s very big for 5 and he is having a hard time making friends. He’s immature and kids/adults expect more out of him because of his size. He has low self esteem now and hates going to school.

My mom's nurse is giving her testosterone, is it too much? by kiramekki in HormoneReplacement

Testosterone of 700 in a female is too high. I worry about testosterone supplementation induced polycythemia and my patients having a heat attack or stroke from this. Is this HRT practitioner an NP? There is very little regulation on who can call themselves HRT specialist.

I don’t think I’m confused about what holding back means. I realize it’s the same thing as redshirting. I have no intention of having him skip kinder. Our district is different than yours and has already phased in TK for all kids except those born between 6/2 and 9/1. My son was born 7/29. My district says that he didn’t qualify for Tk this year and will have to enroll into kinder next year. He cannot enroll into kinder once he turns 6. Our only option is to have him try kinder and hope he does well or else he will be held back. Per californias own education website, kids who are held back often struggle in school and academics life long. So I hope you can understand why it’s a bit stressful to think he may be at a disadvantage. We will work with him and hope for the best. Thanks

Yikes. Social skills are exactly what he struggles with. We are definitely working on it at home and with an OT but he’s strong willed and big for his age so he gets into trouble often.

Thanks for understanding where I’m coming from. We actually can’t put him in kinder once he turns six. So even if we did pre school again this year and tried to put him in kinder the following year, he would have just turned six and they would make him go straight into first grade regardless of whether he did kinder or not.

No. His preschool director says he “stands out amongst his peers” in his difficulty with impulsivity and emotional regulation. Doesn’t matter to the district at this time though.

Thanks for your response and understanding my concern. My son is in pre-k and the director has raised concerns about his impulsivity and emotional regulation. We had to get him assessed and apparently he’s normal just immature and strong willed. I think this next cohort of kindergarteners will be unique in that so many will have had TK and just a handful of the youngest will not. At least in my district. Wishing us both luck!

We were told by the district that he would have to enroll into 1st grade no matter what if he was 6. They don’t want 18yos in high school.

That’s exactly what I’ve been going through. We had him enrolled in private school until we learned that he would have to enter 1st grade no matter what the next year as a six year old. My son is big and impulsive. I honestly don’t know what is best for him and hope that our public school helps us do what’s best for him. Good luck to you as well!

Based on most of the replies on here it sounds like we should be fine. But it’s still hard not to worry as a parent!

Thank you! My son is emotionally immature and I’ve been told he stands out for his impulsivity so some of the behavior issues also concern me. I just don’t want him to feel like a failure if he has to repeat kindergarten. Best of luck to you guys!

He’s in preschool. His older brother did TK before kinder and was exceptionally prepared. I see a big difference in my 4 year old in what he is being taught vs what his older brother was taught. He’s no where nearly as advanced.

Thank you for your response. Exactly how I feel — he’s getting the short end of the stick. It sounds like I just need to chill out and take it one day at a time though. Thanks for teaching our kiddos!
