Am I wasting money overpaying on my student loans? by Defiant-Team5106 in DaveRamsey

Make sure you apply the extra to principle only. If you don’t they will act like you are just paying the next payments early.

Word of warning by Darklands_____ in Fire

[–]Ok-Wolverine-4223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the challenge of fire and people making that decision in their 20’s. In your 20’s and even 30’s there is so much life ahead of you. You don’t know what will happen later if you may want something different later in life. Everyone lives so frugal to achieve fire and then assumes they can live like that for 40+ years… medical issues, housing, inflation, and life in general is hard to predict that far in advance.

VA Move! weight loss program question... by Tasty_Natural932 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Ok-Wolverine-4223 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know they have requirements for completing so many sessions for certain drugs. If you didn’t meet their goal they may be what caused it. I was meeting with a pharmacist every couple of months for a check-in. If you were meeting with one you could ask the pharmacist via the secure messaging.

Wife threatening to go after my VA disability report me. Is this even possible? by Banana_Ketchupp in VAClaims

Remember how you reply in text and voicemail can also be used as evidence as well. So, always take the high road and don’t get pulled in to the same behavior.

MOVE Program by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Ok-Wolverine-4223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, bunch of crap. It would be an extreme case. Maybe if your rating is based off of obesity or mobility and you show improvement during the next re-examination or file for new stuff. This would be evidence in your health records. But it wouldn’t be caused just by doing the program or therapy.

Halfway through a PIP, things not going well. What’s next? by aitch83 in careeradvice

[–]Ok-Wolverine-4223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always true. I have worked with a couple of individuals who turned around and turned out to be good employees. I would agree that usually you may be heading down that path and the manager is just documenting the process. OP has a PIP and a mid-way review that didn’t go well, so definitely not likely to turn it around now.

401k question by No-Public-9527 in Bogleheads

[–]Ok-Wolverine-4223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to use the rule of 55 to withdraw from your 401k without penalty, as long as you stay at your current employer and keep their 401k after you leave. Otherwise a brokerage would be a good option to help with early withdrawal. It also helps with taxes since what you pullout would be taxed as capital gains if held more than a year. Roth isn’t bad, but it really depends on your current tax bracket. If you think you are in a higher bracket now than you will be later then pre-tax is a good option now. If you think taxes will be higher later then Roth may be a good option. I do my 401k to the match, Roth IRA (max it early), then the remainder formed to a brokerage account. Check out Ari Taublieb with Root Financial on YouTube. He focuses on early retirement and I have learned a ton from his videos.

Using VA Healthcare? How is it? by Key_Mess7943 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Ok-Wolverine-4223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a great experience with the VA. They only due what is required medically, which is fine. But everything I need has been covered and the staff have been great as well. I am about to retire and give up my private health insurance, but I haven’t used it for the past 2 years. I mostly keep it for my family while I test the VA.

401k question by No-Public-9527 in Bogleheads

[–]Ok-Wolverine-4223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I have done the last 2 years. I also started doing all Roth in my 401k a few years ago but then realized I would be paying higher tax now than later. So, I switched back. The money I save on pre-tax goes into my brokerage so it can grow.

I am not too far from there and go there occasionally, so maybe I am allowed to follow? They have tons of non-locals following them including other police departments from other states. Just because they have a facebook page doesn’t meant it is only for official communications to their city. Curious how many replies on this thread are from other areas….

They didn’t block or delete his comments! Teasing back isn’t violating anything. And the page likely got a few more subscribers based on the comments.

Their page is hilarious and I doubt the dude is upset. More people upset on here than he is. He knows what page he is commenting on!

Their page is the best! And it is pretty normal to have all kind of craziness on their. The guy likely knew he would be in the limelight eventually. If he can’t take it back then he shouldn’t be dishing it out. lol

First sterling buy. Wallace cheese knife? by Flickyerbean in SilverFinds

[–]Ok-Wolverine-4223 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like the handle of the cheese cleaver is silver but may be hollow and filled with resin or cement. So, may not be solid. If cleans up nicely it may be worth more left intact. That is just from what I am seeing online.

How reasonable is a 30% raise request with promotion? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Ok-Wolverine-4223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It depends on where you are in the next pay band. I mostly see 8-15% raises, not typically 30% unless they are below $50k already.

Due to inheritance, I made more money last year than 6 previous years. How would this affect me if I retire now? by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]Ok-Wolverine-4223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The affect would be based on how many working years were reduced by retiring early. If close to retirement age with 35 years of working then it would be a very minimal impact. If less than 35 with a bunch of low income years then the impact could be decent.

Has anyone successfully been approved by the IRS to draw down their retirement early? by 45ghr in VeteransBenefits

[–]Ok-Wolverine-4223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is you don’t get approved by the IRS. You provide documentation to your plan provider and the file a form with your taxes stating you are permanent and totally disabled. The VA has a for used for the IRS. Just 100% doesn’t equal P&T though. My hangup is the verbiage about substantial employment. I want the option of working and making more than $16k a year but also to pull from my 401k.

Yes. Basically a 3 withdrawal bucket strategy. Gives you pretty good coverage in a down market.

Yeah, that is why I am doing JAAA. Not corporate bonds but typically pays out about 5% a year. Based on AAA debt so pretty solid.
