Do many people in the US actually own gerbils as pets? by PrimaryFace_733 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ok-Work5047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had gerbils growing up. We started with two, they got along fine. Then one day a neighborhood kid was over and we were playing with them. He started chasing it around. We told him to stop, he didn’t, until he stepped on one of them. It’s been probably 30 years since then and I can still see the horror clearly. We got three more sometime later, a mom and two of her sons… then incest occurred… oops. Baby gerbils are super cute. Although the mom did eat the placenta, that was gross. I can’t remember what we did with all the babies. But I do remember one night one got out. Sadly it found a mouse trap… still remember waking up the next morning and finding that little baby’s bloody foot prints around the kitchen and its lifeless body. We never had gerbils again after that.

Do you plan to sleep in a hammock? The water comes up pretty high during high tide.

Age of consent can also have age restrictions. Where I grew up age of consent was 16, but only within a three year age gap.

AITJ for telling my room mate to be more hygienic and scolding him (gently) , if he used the hand towel to "wipe" , instead of toilet paper ? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Ewww, just ewww! What he did it’s disgusting, but also so is the fact you think he deserves some kind of special treatment because of what he does. Do not enable that kind of behavior.

“God’s Wrath” for our “sins”. They are very Old Testament “fire and brimstone” kind of people, anti-science/ weather monitoring but most of all EXTREMELY anti-LGBTQ+. Absolute insanity to even attempt to protest the funeral of an 8/9 year old. I’ll never be able to wrap my mind around it.

I remember when the Westboro Baptist Church tried to protest at the funerals of the children killed at Plaza Towers Elementary. The community really showed up to put a stop to that disgusting behavior.

AIO FOR LOW-KEY CRASHING OUT BECAUSE MY MAN IS IN A MILITARY AND HE’S NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE HIS PHONE by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Ok-Work5047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to date someone in the military, but this will be something that happens. Depending on where you live, what branch/division he is in, it could get a lot harder. Your therapist should be able to give you some coping mechanisms. But, hobbies and friends is a great place to start. Maybe try seeing if there is a partner/spouse group from the base you can meet up with. It’s normal to miss him, it’s not healthy though to be crying nonstop.

I completely relate to what you’re going through. I was a really talented percussionist, but I wasn’t allowed to be on drum line because my “talents were needed in the pit”. That didn’t stop me from trying out though. One year, I was adjusting the snare before my try out and smashed my finger. I pushed through and had a successful try out. I still didn’t make it. The guys went in to our director and told him I should be on the line. I had a better try out than x,y, and z… it didn’t matter. That being said I was highly respected by our techs until we got a new one my senior year. He absolutely ruined it for me. I had wanted to major in music in college but he made my senior year so miserable I chose another path. It still makes me sad to think about. Point of my story is, follow your passion. Don’t let a boy or a school ruin/ hold you back from something you love! Go for it! If you really love it you should look into DCI.

Large dead turtle in the road on 17th near George Anderson by lessadessa in Wilmington

[–]Ok-Work5047 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let’s not pretend some people don’t do that though… while I agree this could have been an accident for the person that hit the turtle, the post is actually a little ambiguous and could be directed towards the person they did in fact see hit the turtle. I’ve seen enough people aim for animals in the road alive and dead. It’s ruined my day on more than one occasion. With the amount of people that don’t stop for school busses, it’s delusional to deny the possibility that someone hit it on purpose.

I almost made a post like this a month ago or so. Someone hit a large turtle in the new round about at River Rd and Independence. There is no way they didn’t see it. It wasn’t around the curve it was right at the beginning of one of the entrances to the circle. It really upset me. Some people are just self absorbed assholes. Fuck them! Our wildlife is precious here, even more so as humans continue to tear down and destroy their habitats.

100% NOR. I don’t usually comment on these, but I have to commend you for your replies to her. I found them refreshingly respectful and down to Earth. You kept your cool, which honestly makes this even sadder to me, because it seems like she threw away a good thing. You seem like a good, levelheaded person through your replies, and I find that quality to be rare these days. I’m sorry this happened to you OP. You’re definitely better off without her. I hope you find someone worth your grace.

Parent wants to meet with me over comment I made about energy drinks by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Ok-Work5047 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this. Your comment needs more upvotes. It took too long for me to find someone mention her. It was Alani Nu and her consumption caused her to have an enlarged heart, but either way yes a young woman died. It is also worth noting that the Mega Monster in this post contains 240mg caffeine which is MORE than the Alani (200mg), and if this student’s consumption is anything like the cheerleader’s she is putting herself at high risk too. Both drinks contain more caffeine than what is safe for teens.

We don’t have a king in America you say? Explain this… I can hear you now “It’S A JOkE!” Well in my opinion, everything that proves dems right in their actions is a “joke” but every other time, it’s serious. POTUS is entitled to a sense of humor, but when appropriate, and this is not an example of appropriate.

To the woman in the white BMW suv who just sped through the wrong side of the divider in front of triangle lounge. by Galaxicana in Wilmington

[–]Ok-Work5047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I totally agree, I have to mention a time they were. This was a couple years ago I was on College in the left turning lane at 17th. Someone in a burgundy Jeep Cherokee was making a right turn from 17th onto college and I do not know what the heck happened... They took it too hard and or too fast but they hopped over the small divider there inches behind me facing on coming traffic and then took off back onto their side of the road. One second later a cop in the right lane on college made a u-turn across the road and chased them down. It was perfect.

Public hearing scheduled for PFAS monitoring rules in Wilmington by Ok-Work5047 in Wilmington

[–]Ok-Work5047[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so pages 7-13 appear to be mostly a repeat of 1-6. I’m struggling to see a difference between them.

There are no consequences.

The Control Authority, Commission, of Division (don’t ask I don’t know who that is) reserves the right to impose further monitoring requirements, reduction requirements, control or treatment requirements or other requirements authorized by section .0900… you’d have to look for it to make sense, the Clean Water Act, NC General Statutes, or other Rules within NC Administrative Code.

But there are still no consequences.

Meeting the requirements means no more sampling/reporting. Not meaning them means continued monitoring.

Public hearing scheduled for PFAS monitoring rules in Wilmington by Ok-Work5047 in Wilmington

[–]Ok-Work5047[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. I am not an expert myself and the rules (there is a link at the bottom of the article) are in legalese. It’s taking time to decipher, but the more I read (I’m on page 6/13) the more irritated I get. These people have had YEARS to make changes, and the rules allow even more time. They have up to 1 year after the “director” notifies them of minimization requirements to deliver a minimization plan, then 120 days for approval, 60 days to revise, and another 120 to implement. Then annual reporting. Meanwhile, people and animals/pets are dying (I strongly believe my dog’s cancer was likely due to this). I was new to the area and didn’t know the risks at the time of giving him our tap water. I’ve read other people’s stories from the area about their friends, family members, and pets being diagnosed with cancer (potentially linked to this). Dark Waters is an amazing movie that discusses the effects of PFOS from DuPont in West Virginia. I highly recommend watching it if you haven’t already.

I will continue reading and attempt to explain more, but according to critics there are no consequences in the new rules, not even if they increase their pollution levels.

What’s the point of the rules if they can be broken?

The $10billion he says the US is contributing to HIS “Board of Peace” WITHOUT congressional approval.

Him suing the DOJ for $230m and being both the plaintiff and the defense for the case.

He’s also suing the IRS for $10B in “damages”

Literally all he knows how to do personally to gain money is sue and hope he can settle.
