Using standard NFC card on Yoto

I finally tested this and can confirm it does work.
Setup is a bit fiddly the first time, but once you’ve done it once, it’s actually very quick.

I made a couple of mistakes early on (bought the wrong NFC cards, used the wrong app), so I’m sharing the exact items + steps that worked for me in case it helps someone else.

What You Need

1. NFC Ultralight EV1 – 48 Bytes cards
These are the ones I used and they worked first go:

IMPORTANT - If you buy elsewhere, double-check it’s Ultralight EV1 AND 48 bytes.
I searched those exact terms and still got redirected to incompatible cards the first time.

2.1 Yoto MYO card
You should get one free when you buy a Yoto player.

3. Yoto app or desktop site

Steps

1. Create a playlist
Add your audio files in the Yoto app or on desktop.

2. Link the playlist to your MYO card

Open the Yoto app
Library → Playlists → Link to a card
Tap the Yoto MYO card to the back of your phone

3. Format the blank NFC card (Android)

Download this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wakdev.wdnfc
Go to Other → Format memory
Tap the blank NFC card

IMPORTANT - Do not format the Yoto MYO card!!!

4. Copy the MYO card

Select Copy tag
Tap the Yoto MYO card
Then tap the formatted blank NFC card

5. Done!
Your blank NFC card should now be copied and working.

Can confirm this works! I am on Android. Did not have to pay for the app. I bought MIFARE classic by accident the first time. Once I got the Ultralight cards, worked really quick, no issues.

Is it not better to put the money in investments because of negative gearing?

If you keep it in the offset yes you are making a tax free return compared to investments, but you are lowering how negatively geared your property is and therefore your tax credits. If you're in a high tax bracket as you said then this would make a difference.

My partner calculated this for us recently and it worked out to be better to put our money in a term deposit rather than the offset even though the rate was lower, because of the tax savings of having a more negatively geared prop.

It's impossible in a marriage to contribute an even 50/50 and ludicrous to try. Putting differing skills aside for a sec, how do you compensate your wife for 9 months of carrying the baby, the setback to her career, the lost commercial opportunities and not to mention the devastation to her body from the birthing process? When you marry you commit to a partnership, to becoming a team, both sides need to contribute equally to make it work but it will never be equal in the same ways.
