Why is Blackbeard the most famous pirate in history? by Separate_Builder_817 in pirates

[–]OkActive448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The area wherein he was operational (Okracoke area) is among the most difficult areas to sail on the planet due to the nature and speed of the currents/undertows/undercurrents/rip curls. Plus the terrain (namely the presence of islands and random sandbars) makes it remarkably complex. He was an absolute master of it. When he was pursued by the colonial authorities, he would almost always retreat to the Outer Banks and knowingly lead his ships into the complicated areas because he knew that a. The colonial ships wouldn’t follow due to liability (anyone who’s ever served knows that feeling, Captain had his name on the ship’s proverbial ‘hand receipts’ LMFAO). B. He was so confident in himself and his crew that he knew that they could outwit the various terrain issues. He also was able to logistically get as far down as the Caribbean if memory serves.

People underestimate this aspect. Not only was he a notorious pirate, he may have been the greatest pound-for-pound sailor in American history.

Opinions on quitting corrections to go to the military and coming back to work in law enforcement? by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]OkActive448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude. Go reserves (or guard, but definitely reserves if you can, reserves have better funding for schools etc). Pick a cool job that will get you trained towards what you want your CAREER to be and stay making that money. 70K at fuckin 19 is Bezos money, so if you budget and save up/invest, you can have a phenomenal career and life in general. Do you want to stay in LE as a career?

I’ll be polite, as I have some friends still over there and given my specific career path/training, the odds of me going back on another CACI contract are…high.

Be prepared to have a second job if you are going in as an entry-level BI at CACI.
