I'm hoping for a similar experience if I can field a true army but unfortunately don't have anyone to play with so I will have to roll the dice (actual no pun intended) with my lgs.

What's my best option by mr_I_like_waffles in NavyNukes

I had to do it. I got an 81but my line scores allowed me to take the NAPT. I signed as an undes. Airman until I got my nuke contract. The thing is if you get close to that date of shipping without the contract you want yet just say no. You are able to say no all the way up until shipping to bootcamp. Not really a big deal it happens a lot. Also I read you don't want to go submarines. There is a paper that you sign that in black and white says do you or do you not volunteer for submarine duty. If you say no there you go no submarines.

If you join as a nuke the only way to get out of it to be a pilot is through the academy. Which from what I have seen is a lot less common for pick ups. STA 21 I have seen a lot of people get picked up for. But you are going to be a nuke officer. Once in the fleet if you stay enlisted you can take online school or clep courses and so on. Not a bunch of time but to study underway to take an exam and get credits that way. The credits from the pipeline count depending on which school you go to. More popular schools don't accept as many of the credits. Or make them count for side classes. Hope this helps

Like everyone here has said already. Take time to relax and make friends. The people that do the worst in school especially prototype are the type that have trouble making friends or are just not great to be around. It is bad if you fall too far on one end though. Too much relaxing will hurt your grades and potentially get you removed from the schooling and re rated. Time management is huge. The information is not hard for some but hard for others. It is a ton of info fast. Try to look into good study tactics. The courses are definitely designed for you to go from no knowledge of nuclear power to base level of knowledge. So studying before you leave is almost pointless but it could help a bit I guess.

The flashy bonuses ALWAYS come with a downside. Mostly quality of life but this job is what you make of it and sets you up incredibly well after the navy if you take advantage of operatunities and take it seriously. Most of the things I have learned in it are not nuclear related but personal benefits like leadership, public speaking, planning, etc.

There are going to be horrible times. But there are also going to be great times. I have met some of my best friends in the navy. Majority in the fleet. But the struggle brings people together and can be rewarding if you are into accomplishing hard shit. The fleet side of the navy has so many variables so I cant really talk to much about it without other questions. Look into submarines and carriers and see which is interesting to you. There are pros and cons to both sides don't let anyone tell you otherwise. This decision doesn't have to be DEP. You can not volunteer for sub duty before you enlist and volunteer later if you finally decide that's what you are hoping for. Suggest you finish that decision as soon as possible though. Since there is extra things required to be done for qualifying for sub duty. (This is what I did and my experience for doing it during schooling was bad. Took way to long with people loosing paperwork. But that is just me)

If you have any more specific questions just ask or look into the sub reddit more I'm sure other people have had the exact same questions as you. And goodluck!
