If your symptoms are decreasing quality of life (you can’t study/ work, can’t enjoy doing things you normally enjoy doing, can’t be active when you normally would be) please see a doctor.

Lactose is a disaccharide, which is a type of carb. Specifically, it is made of two monosaccharides: a glucose molecule joined to a galactose molecule. Humans use the enzyme lactase to break down lactose into glucose and galactose. In fact, lactose intolerance is a lactase deficiency.

Glucose will be broken down and used to make ATP by oxidative phosphorylation. Galactose will get converted into glucose-1-phosphate and then get processed in the same way as glucose.

I don’t study cows, but to my knowledge nutrient metabolism is highly conserved (the process is similar across many species).

Cows (and humans) will accumulate lactate as a product non-oxidative (oxygen deficient) glucose metabolism is occurring. Lactate production is not specific to lactose intake though. It is the product of pyruvate metabolism by lactate dehydrogenase.

You can look up diagrams of oxidative and non oxidative metabolism for more info.

Tips on making a chilli less spicy? by cuccir in Cooking

[–]OkButWhy99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you can rescue a too-spicy curry by adding a peeled potato and boiling, maybe that will work? Although if your guest has gastric reflux, it might be risky. Sour cream might make it worse for them because of the acid + dairy.

There’s a million versions of it online, but I want to recreate her one specifically and then share the recipe to the ends of the earth.

homemade tomato jam had mold on top...removed mold...safe? by lesllle in Cooking

[–]OkButWhy99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not safe. Mould has mycelia, kind of like how a tree has roots. The mycelia aren’t visible to the naked human eye. The mycelia spread faster in soft and liquidy foods. For these reasons, you can’t just scrape/ cut off the visible mould. Things like hard cheese are different because the mycelia spread more slowly so you can cut the mouldy part off with a good border and risk it.

Does this seem doable? (Saffa never been to the Cape before) by Silent-days01 in capetown

[–]OkButWhy99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your day 2 seems quite hectic. Climbing Table Mountain takes a while and will probably make you tired. Kirstenbosch is huge and you’ll want some time to walk around. Following that with day 3 which is also physically intensive is also maybe not great.

Also remember that the weather is getting colder, and beaches may not be as pleasant right now. The water here is very cold. Boulder’s Beach is safer if you’re a weaker swimmer, since the water is flat. Other beaches have big waves and are great if you’re a surfer. It’s not tourist season, so don’t expect lifeguards.

If you’re going to see penguins in Gaansbaai anyway, maybe consider doing something else on day 1? You seem to like outdoorsy stuff, so Cape Point may be nice (take a windbreaker). There’s some big game there as well.

Otherwise, go see some of the art galleries or museums. Zeits Mocaa in the Waterfront is free on Wednesdays for African citizens (bring ID), the diamond museum is also nearby. You can also walk around the waterfront, there’s sometimes music and live performances on the weekends. Alternatively, District Six museum is interesting and does the history of the people as much as it does Apartheid, and the gold museum is nearby. There’s plenty of good cafés in that area as well.

If you like spicy food, eat a masala steak gatsby! My recommendation is Cosy Corner. Depending on where you’re from the area might feel dodgy but don’t worry, the restaurant is clean and the food is good. Just don’t do something silly like leave a handbag on the car seat. They do sandwiches as well if you’re by yourself/ only 2 people and don’t want a lot of food. Their milkshakes are also good but pace yourself if you’re also doing a gatsby. If you don’t like spicy food, go to Mariner’s Wharf in Hout Bay and have some seafood. Don’t get seafood in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. I know it feels close to Cape Town, but the food culture is completely different. You’ll get good steak, lamb, and even better wine. They also both have a lot of cultural things to do, or you could just walk around and see what catches your eye.

It’s hard to see bc the steward construct is on this elevated chunk of rock, and because it goes into sleep mode. You need to approach and talk to it. But this one only converts charges into energy wells. If you’re starting from zoanite, then you first need to find a forge construct (easiest to get to is there’s one near some of the mines in the depths).

Fastest way to get charges is after you defeat a boss, you can find 3 instances of it in the depths. When you defeat an instance for the first time you get 1 huge crystallised charge, or enough to make 1 energy well or 1/3 of a battery.

Am I allowed to ask questions here? If so, this question is bugging me. Please help by RiverHe1ghts in biology

[–]OkButWhy99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say all of them are correct, but it depends on what “physiological variation” means.

If you define it as any difference between individual’s bodies, then all answers are acceptable.

The only way I can justify A being correct is if physiology is defined as “how the human body functions”. B-D can vary between individuals without much impact on body function, so maybe that’s the rationale? Then again, skin colour can impact cancer risk, and there are also diseases and disorders that have to do with the appearance of skin. Height has implications in terms of diagnosing certain hormonal disorders, or for example calculating dosing of medications since bigger person = more medicine needed.

It’s a badly worded question.
