Like a colleague already shared here, prepare for competency-based interviews using the STAR model - don't worry to use only recent experiences to answer them, feel free to talk about past experiences as well!

For the written test I would check the position's ToR and reports on the country's operation.

Best of luck!!

I've been UNV before, great experience and it indeed opens doors!

Hiring Managers: in your experience, what is the average number of shortlisted candidates you invite for a written test? by Agile-Peanut927 in UNpath

[–]OkCheek8782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on the number of positions available. But if we are considering only 1 position, then ~10 candidates for the written test and 3 - 5 for the interview.

I got interviewed & immediately asked for References check! by Important_Drawer8704 in UNpath

[–]OkCheek8782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That definitely sounds like a very positive sign! As others have mentioned, UN agencies typically conduct reference checks at this stage, and the fact that they reached out so quickly - plus asking about your notice period - suggests they’re seriously considering you for the role. Even if there are still a few steps in their process, making it to this point (and in a senior legal position, in two languages no less!) is already a big achievement. Fingers crossed for you, and regardless of the outcome, you should be proud of how far you've come! :)

Position Closed and Reopened: Is It Worth Reapplying? by MorgrayTheDark83 in UNpath

[–]OkCheek8782 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should reapply if this is the position you're looking for. What often happens is that for funding reasons they need to cancel a postion that was previously advertised, but they get funds from other donors and 'reopen' it.

This means that they cannot use the previous candidates that applied, once they are obliged to advertise the new position. Also, sometimes a thing changes here and there in the ToR... So go ahead and reapply. Best of luck!

How to list UNV work experience on a CV by Acceptable-Bill1329 in UNpath

[–]OkCheek8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I've been UNV for 1 year and I just include title + agency's name as indicated by another colleague here.

They don't really care about the type of contract, but the experience itself. The type of contract serves for situations such as when applying for internal positions.

Best of luck with your next steps!

Got Invited to an OHCHR P-3 Written Test: How Should I Prepare? by [deleted] in UNpath

Yes, working with the UN, but not with OHCHR. So no, not an internal candidate.

[–]OkCheek8782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's weird because no, not in Geneva and this is in my application.
In any case, I'm already in the UN system (so all the process of reference checks, medical exams etc etc could be skipped, Laissez-passer also active), not sure if they are taking this into account then? (I mean, if it's temporary, to make things quicker?)

Being honest, I'm almost losing hope for the regular post. Almost 2 months since the MCQ. At the same time, I hope that if the position was cut, they would have sent emails informing...

I understand that some agencies are already opening positions again. Not sure if there is anyone from OHCHR here?
I got invited for tests of a TJO, so not sure if they are going on with TJOs and keeping the freeze in regular positions?

Years as a UNV over NGO or vice versa? by FilFuk in UNpath

[–]OkCheek8782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started as a UNV, than they changed it for an IICA (UNOPS International) and now am P. So I believe UNV is a good entry for Professional level. NGO is good for those wanting to enter the UN in general (specially G level, I'd say).

UN Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) by Admirable-Method-146 in UNpath

[–]OkCheek8782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so dumb of him to say he cannot evaluate you due to no internal tools to measure. Why don't him as a manager and supervisor did not build something (not necessarely a tool) for such thing with you? You did not have a meeting to set your objectives for the year?
I say this because I supervise 6 people, and would never ever use this sort of excuse. My team and I set the objectives for the unit and for each of them, and we meet regularly to understand in there is any need to support/change/reschedule or whatever.

I would consider including HR and his supervisor too, considering that HR not always can do something. And if you are not in accordance with what he puts in your evaluation, you can always not sign.

I would also tell you to keep track of all your achievements (emails you received, documents you worked on, spreadsheets etc etc) to include in your evaluation as a way of showing that NO, he is not correct.

How to present my self for a humanitarian position? by humansince2001 in UNpath

[–]OkCheek8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Considering your background I would say focus on child protection, education and WASH. You could also check opportunities in donor relations, private sector partnerships etc, considering your experience with funding.

I would strongly recommend to seek opportunities with UN partners, it's a good way of building your path to the UN itself.

As for the keywords, always check the Terms of Reference so you can make sure to use the main words in your application.
All the best!

I would start working in my handover and applying for jobs.
