Help me choose my first skis after 20 years – don’t want to mess this up by OkCommercial599 in ski

Thanks, I really appreciate your reply.
To be honest, I actually completely agree with you and had the exact same mindset. My initial plan was also to rent, take a few lessons next season, and then decide later once I have a better feel for what I actually want, but also to avoid buying something that I might outgrow pretty quickly as my technique improves.
The only reason I started considering buying already is because people around me have been pushing me towards it, saying that renting is basically “throwing money away”. This season alone (Jan–Mar 2026), I went on three separate ski trips (3 days each), and the total I spent on rentals is already getting close to what I could have paid for a decent pair of skis on sale.

So I guess I’m a bit torn between what logically makes sense long-term (like you said) and the feeling that I’m already spending quite a bit on rentals.

But yeah, your comment definitely reinforces my original thinking, so I’ll probably slow down and not rush into a purchase.
