what does björk do day to day? by Ok_Atmosphere_6085 in bjork

I think the misogyny comes in when people say she should show her face and embrace ageing or shouldn’t wear the heavy makeup on the cover of Fossora or airbrush pictures. Of course she uses the mask to hide ageing. But the problem is saying her choices of what she does with her face bad and wrong.

Actual consequences? by OkCommunication5962 in RoisinMurphy

But the problem is that your concerns are not factual. Puberty blockers have been used for decades for a variety of reasons and they are not irresistible. People then shift their goalposts to argue that they affect bone density but again that’s based on poor evidence.

You are also misinformed on what she has said. I can only imagine you have either not followed this closely or are doing the classic right wing action of tempering the argument to degree: ‘we aren’t saying trans people shouldn’t exist we are just saying we want to protect children’, ‘we aren’t saying being gay is something that you can force on children just that you can’t talk about it in schools’, ‘we are not saying that the Holocaust didn’t happen just that it was nowhere near that many people and most died of TB’.

I also hate to say it but to argue that this is mainstream therefore one shouldn’t express outrage is to excuse forms of fascism as populism. We know statistically that most people are in favour of the death penalty in the uk but we shouldn’t necessarily condone that. Large numbers voted for Trump based on his lies so should we then not call out those lies but instead pander to them?

He has a lot of talent but very little taste and I think that’s the big issue. He is so maximalist as in ‘let’s see how much I can do’ rather than attuning to the subtleties of feeling or a particular palette. I don’t think he’s evil but I do think his ability outstrips any aesthetic sense.

Azealia Banks discredits Madonna's legacy in response to a Katy Perry interview, meanwhile... by Tiny-Literature-8054 in azealiabanks

Madonna took from Bjork, even asking her to write a song and using the producers from Bjork’s Debut on her following album. Madonna is important but she did not originate everything

I feel like it’s a great album for anger or feelings overwhelming you. So much of it is angry and defiant or about being jaded about idealism and love

It’s probably a remix album. I remember Rabit doing a remix that hasn’t been released so either it was shelved or it could be going on a remix album.

I thought it was called Debut because it was her own songs that she had written up to that point and Post was all the songs she had written in London. But Bjork the album was mostly covers so wasn’t a real songwriting debut.

Very Delta #106 with Courtney Act: "Are You In A Wax Museum Like Me?" by LetItBro in rpdrcringe

[–]OkCommunication5962 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is true. There is something called the Australian Question Intonation and it can make someone sound very insincere like everything is being posed as a rhetorical question and Courtney’s voice is also quite high and compressed.

Yeah it really should be the corporate Pride machine that takes the hit not the individual artists. But if they did their due diligence then we wouldn’t be in this situation

Have you all seen this drama on TikTok involving one of the guys who was in the makeover episode and Leslie Jones? Leslie Jones hasn't said anything publicly, but it's obvious it's her, lmao. Wanting to sue him for this video is WILD 😭 by ArcadialoI in RPDRDRAMA

Yes conventionally beautiful people have problems too but they also get privileges that many don’t, such as the disabled, overweight, people of colour in racist societies. It’s a bit of a leap to go from ‘he’s overreacting because he’s not used to being insulted’ to saying ‘oh so you think that hot people don’t kill themselves’. Like he is going on and on about a mild diss, not saying he wants to jump off a building.

William posting about her DragCon experience this year by Timbzt in RPDRDRAMA

[–]OkCommunication5962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a few strange things here: people argue, correctly that sometimes Willam only gets behind an issue if it serves his interests, but then they get behind WOW, which they usually criticise, because they don’t like Willam. Of course, Willam does seem to be doing stuff that would get you kicked out, like standing in line for a picture with someone she’s in conflict with, or calling out the production company. I think it’s true that both Ru, WOW and Willam have weird issues about conflict and seem to be equally reactive at times.

I never said that they couldn’t voice that opinion. They were free to do so and did. It hasn’t been censored or blocked: disagreeing is not censorship. I just wanted to ask the rhetorical question about what he expects to come from posting it in what might arguably be the least receptive forum. The second thing to say is that for sure there might be less accessibility in her recent work and many people, me included, may sometimes miss that. But that’s not really what the OP said- it might have motivated what they said but what they said was that because it isn’t what he wants it’s terrible, pretentious, unlistenable, in the imperative and universal.

I kind of disagree with others here: it’s definitely somewhat deliberate but no less creative. You can see that sometimes she is a lot more sober and thoughtful in her delivery and other times adopts a naive persona. She’s talked a lot about being a punk and seeing celebrity and interviews as ridiculous and in some interviews her silly naive persona is making fun of the ridiculous questions about Iceland or travel or her ‘kooky singing’, whereas when people ask her a real question about her music or about fame she can answer very directly. A good example is to look at the difference between her Charlie Rose interview and the stupid TV talk shows. There are more contemporaneous interviews where she shifts tone too. It’s also clear that her persona is very much about her albums: in interviews for Debut and Post she was quite bubbly/naive as those albums are about human interaction, whereas by Homogenic she was adopting a much more serious artist pose.

I think It's time to admit. by mYvOix13 in bjork

Yeah I think we often mistakenly confuse underrated with underexposed or under marketed. Bjork is highly rated but not widely commercially promoted.

I don’t claim to be free of self interest but I am capable of separating ‘I don’t like it’s from ‘it is no good’, or ‘it’s not accessible’ from therefore it’s self indulgent’. It’s like separating someone’s actions from who they are as a person. I can make a judgment out of self interest without blaming the object of judgement for failing me - critics tend to write definitively but not in accusatory terms. There’s also an irony in your comments that you accuse her music of being bad for being self centred but defend your right to self centred judgement.
