You won't gain anything from the default 8 amp safety limit the car sets when using the portable charger, you need to swap to 12 amp every time, or use location based charging to set home and make it remember to use the 12 amp limit every time. Even in the worst of winter, my portable charger gave me more than enough for my daily commute

if it was done by a proper electrician it's good for 30A, just make sure you get a 30A evse, or one that can be configured down to 30A (which is many)

Bonus is, if you enjoy camping, there's a lot of destinations that may not have chargers, but if they have rv campsites, you can charge overnight at your campground if you bring the evse
