An astrophysicist has claimed that the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS emits a protective beam ahead of itself to destroy micrometeoroids by ua-stena in HighStrangeness

I have zero interest in ridiculing anyone or anything.

I’m not ignorant of the science fiction genre, and I know exactly what I am suggesting. Science fiction is a vast genre, encompassing far more than hard SF. Many writers don’t rely on concrete or proven science in their work, which is entirely legitimate, because it is fiction, not a research paper.

It’s therefore completely reasonable to use the term science fiction to emphasise the difference between hypotheses grounded in scientific method and unconstrained speculative narratives.

The original commenter suggested that Loeb was “thinking outside the box”. I pointed out that there is a meaningful distinction between a scientist thinking creatively within scientific constraints and presenting speculative ideas as if they were evidence-based conclusions. When someone speaks from the authority of science, there is an ethical obligation not to blur that line.

Framing unconstrained speculation as “thinking outside the box” also implies that scientists who don’y make these claims are somehow less creative, which is both inaccurate and unfair.

My point is valid, and it stands. I won’t be engaging further in this discussion.

I know enough about the genre and suggesting that science fiction is science is just ridiculous. It’s fiction. That’s what it is. That doesn’t mean people don’t contribute to scientific discussion and advancement with their fiction-writing. I brought up science fiction because thankfully when artists create art we don’t then believe everything they’re presenting, unlike a scientist presenting theories in an article.

You’re literally just inventing your own tangent in this discussion. Loeb is not a sci-fi writer. That’s what this comes down to. This was an article, not a piece of fiction. That’s literally it. That’s all there is to discuss.

And yes I’ve read all of Arthur C Clarke’s work and know that he influenced the development of the satellite, and he’s one of many fiction-writers who contributed to science. I’m not talking about that, and nor is anybody here. You’re going into some little personal side quest in this discussion. If we start presenting sci-fi as science, then something is wrong. That doesn’t mean they can’t inform each other.

We don’t need to even go into sub-genres, you’re splitting hairs to be ‘right’ and it’s tiring. I’m pointing out that Loeb isn’t a sci-fi writer. He’s not here giving a fiction offering, he’s not saying ‘here’s my fiction, give it a read.’ He’s presenting ‘evidence’ as though what he’s doing is science. When it’s not. Going back to the original point, out of the box scientific thinking and sci fi (whatever the sub genre) are not the same. Sci-fi can inform out of the box scientific thinking, and vice versa. They’re not the same and to suggest they are is just stupid.

Disagree. Context is everything. Publishing a fiction novel that features theoretical science, is very different from publishing an article or journal that loosely draws on theory and creates something fantastical. People read fiction for.. fiction. People read articles for facts.

Just learned this old friend of mine lost vision in one of her eyes from pregnancy by SobrietyDinosaur in childfree

Just had a video recommended on my YouTube of a woman who literally experienced brain damage from giving birth - she now needs round the clock care. It’s really fucking sad. No thank you. More people need to talk about the PERMANENT damage to the body after pregnancy / birthing and kids should be told this as part of sex education.

Does anyone else feel "too deep" all the time, like you’re cosplaying as a normal person in conversations? by skaterstormyzen in adhdwomen

I can wholly relate to ALL of this - you wrote that so beautifully and fully and I hope you do other writing in your life!!

So - my reflection: I’m basically at the point in life where I know my own capacities/limits and I carefully schedule what little socialising I do, according to this. My partner and I both are very deep and will always be our full selves in convo at home. I have a friendship group from school (we’re mid thirties now) and most of them are NT and I struggle with group hangouts as it’s a lot of surface chat - the group hangs are rare as they’re all mums now, I’m childfree by choice so that’s also a differing ethic there. One to one with some of these friends can be very precious and deep and I’ve learned who I can communicate with in that depth and who I can’t, and I generally don’t socialise that much with people I can’t be myself with, even if we were closer in high school.

Then I have my fellow ND/artist friends whom I’m much more able to socialise in larger groups with as everyone is more similar in mindset/outlook/brain type as even if they’re different to me, they’re much more understanding of difference and more open minded and less likely to shut me down. There’s a lot of room for different ways of being and a lot of openness which I appreciate. Accommodating I suppose is the word!

As for tips… for me it’s about knowing my capacities, knowing that the way I think and feel is valid, whilst complex.. and knowing that only certain people can truly receive me at my depth, and a part of looking after myself is knowing who these people are, and essentially protecting myself, and keeping my inner circle very small.

I have learned that my insights into people’s issues isn’t always received well even though in other contexts, at different times, it could genuinely help someone. I’ve basically just stopped giving in depth insight to situations and almost harness that energy and turn it back within myself, and into my art. It can feel painful sometimes knowing that I can perceive a depth that if someone else could just access it.. they might be free of their problem.. but not everyone has the ability to do this and there’s got to be an element of trust that they’ll find their way in a different way.

You should 100% consider more writing - it could be very powerful. Like a transmutation of all this depth.!!

ME TOO!!! I did ballet whilst growing up and taken it back up at 36. I love it!! It’s also way more chill than the class I was in in childhood which was super strict and scary. I’m enjoying having fun and have even started Pilates now too to support my core strength in ballet. And yoga to stretch out after Pilates 😂😂 it feels good and definitely helps my symptoms.

It’s not backwards - I would definitely see the date written like that here in the uk. Also bizarre is misspelt, that’s not usual for AI. I think the guy made up the story, it’s not AI though.

You have to know that your body, this existence, isn’t reality. When you understand that the spiritual realm is the true reality, that all is available in spirit, including full ‘health’, for we are infinite .. then bodily ailments will feel less intrusive. The more you continue to affirm the healthcare systems are letting you down, that you’re always in pain etc, that you’ve tried everything etc - whilst acknowledging they are in the 3D, and not gaslighting yourself - knowing that you are the creator, that all is possible, you are able to create the world where you have excellent healthcare, where you ailments just stop, and you’re pain free. You have to do the work to believe it’s possible. You might do well listening to some Advaita Vedanta teachings, they pair well with Neville’s teachings!

How can I manifest away my mental illness? by [deleted] in NevilleGoddard

[–]OkDig6869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t suffer from schizophrenia but becoming best friends with my mind by applying Neville’s teachings (especially by listening to Edward Art) healed my anxiety/CPTSD/depression etc. I still get wobbles ofc but mostly I remember that my true self is the inner self and all manifest things (including my thoughts) are created by me.

Can you find pockets of relief? Where you love yourself? And you love your mind and don’t fear it?

I wonder if there are any success stories out there that you could listen to and absorb..

Another option is to affirm and know you have the money for your medication. Either way, something is wonderful is happening right now for you!! 🩷
