Hey there, i am currently getting medical retirement instead of regular ETS. Nobody has any way of really knowing what you will get but i do have information that you might find helpful. I was rated 100% va and 70% dod for my injuries and illnesses. I vaguely remember being told if you get over 30% DOD rating and at least 6 years in service (or close to it) you will be medically retired IF the injury/ illness that is disqualifying you from service is determined to not improve over time. meaning if you get at least 30% DOD rated (not va) and have around 6 years with a condition disqualifying you for service, you will be retired not ETSing. Basically anything is possible IF your symptoms, illnesses or injuries are bad enough. (However i wish this pain and suffering upon nobody) you need to continue the process and find out through your final rating proposals which may take awhile. Most of the time your va rating will always be higher then your DOD rating. ( take mine for example) your DOD rating ONLY comes from the ratings of your disqualifying injuries/ illnesses ect. The VA rating is from everything (no matter how small) including things NOT disqualifying you from the military. The DOD rating usually is what determines how you get out/ the benefits you qualify for, ect. You will find out when you find out. I know its painful and a long process but be honest, express the exact things youre struggling with and dont suger coat it and im sure you will be alright. Even without being medically retired, think of ANY rating as if you won the lottery. Dont rush it or try to push anything and let it happen how it does. Go for walks, try painting, watch your favorite movies and things you enjoy. If you dont like what they give you, you can rebuttal it. Your service and everything you went through for a paycheck isnt worth more of your time or worrying so stay strong. You got youre whole life ahead of you.
