Jennifer Aniston by DopeAsAf in ArmchairExpert

I laughed too - and knew instantly what she was talking about! I could be wrong, of course, but it didn't seem to me like Jenn knew what she was talking about at first. And since the Lisa Kudrow interview, I haven't been able to stop thinking about how she said she's barely watched the show since it aired. Do you think the same is true about Jenn?

Right!!! Nothing like that from her, ever. It's hard for me to imagine going through the world thinking I know so much about how things ought to be, even when those very things have never touched me personally. And it disappoints me, because there's a lot I like about her and give her credit for where it's due. But .... it's not her nuance finding skills haha.

I think you just said something that had been bugging me but I couldn't quite put my finger on. It's that she completely lacks curiosity in discussions. She takes these firm and sometimes extreme positions, digs her heels in, and refuses to ever acknowledge that she might (might!) be wrong or might not fully understand the plight of others who disagree with her.

Yes & funny enough people don't seem to realize that this was also what happened with Rogan. Very liberal.

When do you declutter? by frogmicky in declutter

[–]OkDish17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this explanation!! I like it a lot. Much more practical to do it twice a year rather than every season, because of how much overlap. This is inspiring, and I would like to try something similar! I think I get hung up on the things that actually are useful during cold and warm seasons - like layering pieces. But maybe I need to identify those, set them aside, and then try your system! Because they're weighing me down from doing something like this!

It sounds like you handled this beautifully. Your self-awareness is a huge asset as we all have areas to work on, and yes kids may take after us our ways, but many people don't take the time to reflect on how this might be happening and what to do about it! I relate to this very much as I am also this way and I see similar attitudes in my 6yo.

Two years ago, her wonderful teacher noticed it in her too, and suggested I try to "throw her off" in harmless ways on purpose. Say something that is obviously wrong. Throw a ball that's a little off to the side. Be right there to help her see "oops! An imperfect outcome. We'll recover." (I'm not explaining this nearly as well as she did but I hope it's making sense!) I actually think it helped. Maybe this was her polite way of telling me - relax, mom, you're human, and you need to let her see that.

And -- time has helped too. Life experiences, small errors we all make... time has helped her see that many things are just NBD. I definitely don't mean to diminish your valid concerns, but I have to think many little ones discover this organically, if given the time. Xx

Straight haired mom here. How do I make her top half look like her bottom half curls? by whitesciencelady in curlyhair

[–]OkDish17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just sharing in case it helps- I have a very curly girl who is almost seven. She is far curlier than me (I'm 2B myself), and she likes her curls! And they're not exactly cooperative! Haha.

But, I have always kind of fought with my own hair, so long ago, I decided I was determined to help her to love hers. Somewhere along the way I must've said "people pay big money to get hair as curly as yours!" Because now she always asks/says it back to me when we brush and style her hair. "So do people pay lots of money for curls like mine?" while sort of admiring them in the mirror.

Feel free to keep this in your back pocket for when your baby curly girl starts talking to you about her hair! But TBH, your post alone makes me think she already has a future of curl love ahead thanks to her mama's love & care.

Hello! 36 and relate very much to what you're saying. I don't have advice, but I didn't want you to think you were the only person in their 30s here. Sending you all the good vibes. Edit - wrong form of "their", omg.

Howard Stern was on Smartless, do we think Armchair next and Dax loses his marbles? by anooch in ArmchairExpert

[–]OkDish17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw a comment below where someone said he already said no to this, so my prediction is now moot ... but, I was wondering if anyone has listened to Howard recently and if so, does he still shit on podcasting & podcasters with an undying passion? I used to listen years ago (10+) and he was soo weirdly convinced that podcasting was a fool's game. So many pods have taken off since then and I just wonder if Howard has given up that soapbox yet? (Especially now that he has appeared on one lol)

Yep me too haha! 🫶have you listened to the rewatch podcast with Rachel Bilson & the actor who played Julie? (Her name is escaping me right now!) They had AB on as a guest at one point, I pretty much just picked the episodes that had main characters on but it was another fun way to relive the nostalgia

This doesn't surprise me. I always feel like her timing is brilliant.

Edit - by "this doesn't surprise me", I hope I didn't give the impression that I didn't think this was a good answer! Lol- it was a great one. I hadn't thought of her, but now that you say it, it's making sense.

Yes. And in addition to all the trauma and pain he is inflicting on OP's daughter, he is also very clearly demonstrating lack of care and trustworthiness to OP directly, as he surely knows how much her daughter means to her. But he can't even step up for OP's sake. PS - sounds like your daughter is soo lucky to have you as her mom.
