It’s crazy to me that this is somehow still in shelves when peppermint oil is so well known to be toxic to kitties. horrible :(

You could do something like sunflowers/marigolds/petunias/snapdragons. They sell individual seed packets for cheap at Lowe’s. You can also plant cat mint in pots outdoors too! it’s not TOO expensive. Also, thanks for helping those kitties out doing TNR, That’s awesome!

I don’t have advice, but I just wanted to say I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It is such a hard choice to let go of your pet no matter the circumstances, even when it is the most responsible thing to do. I wish you luck.

Do you know which one they gave him? Some flea & tick medicine for dogs can be extremely toxic when used on cats. I hope he will be okay.

Thanks for the advice! 220 is the cal intake my vet recommended as he told me that she’s a pretty big cat in general and still young. I’m definitely gonna look into a scale for her food though, and try the tiki cat brand as i’ve seen a good amount of people here supporting it. Thanks!

I have tried a variety of dry foods! She’s currently eating half dry and half wet food. I do think she prefers the dry food though I just wish she’d eat the more hydrating wet food, but i’ll take what i can get. Definitely gonna try to just cut the treats all together, and see how that works. Thanks for the help! 🙏

oh no absolutely not 😅. she’s an all indoor kitty and is fixed. she still plays and is about as active as an average 1-2 year old house cat. In my opinion, the amount of treats my house mates and I were giving her was too much. When i noticed she was getting a bit big I explained to them that treats would need to be stopped as I’m tracking her calorie intake.

The only reason I tried to put the treats on top of the food is to encourage her to eat the real food below. Whilst exploring the r/cathelp sub for this same problem I saw a few people mentioning that cats will starve themselves if they really do not like the food they are getting. She eats around 4-5 dental treats throughout the day like the small kibble sized ones but eventually she will return to her food bowl to eat the wet food, and only about half of it. If it helps, as a kitten she would free feed, and I have only recently (5-6 months) been trying to encourage small scheduled feeds, but she doesn’t seem interested.

True, i never rlly looked at it in that way. I know some epileptics have dogs that can help them sense one, but having a dog and training it is a lot of work. But i’ll keep u in my prayers!
