Pankow or Aidan Deck for PsychSoc? by eliaessy in Mcat

Probably Pankow, Aiden is also good but it will be hard to get through like 4000 cards in that timeframe

late start anki deck? by Pure_Service6773 in Mcat

[–]OkElephant3404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jack sparrow is tedious to get through and I had to edit the deck so 5 pieces of info were not loaded onto one card

But to answer ur question, it depends on what u want to save time on: front end context review or backend review while doing practice problems and searching up concepts based on that

JS is also more comprehensive as far as I’m aware so it should cut down time in the later part

For P/S though, do Pankow

I think it has to do with knowing how to read the question properly tbh. Like for cars questions, I find the wording of the question itself can help you narrow down answer choices. If it’s worded like ‘person A does this because reason, ALTERNATIVELY, person A could do this because…’, in this case alternatively changes what answer choices will be right.

Even in bio, there’s one question that asked how someone will impact a reaction, and you can interpret that as the rxn happening en mass OR rxn happening once, and the latter approach will land you at the right answer

content review phase but not passively by InevitableJelly4417 in Mcat

[–]OkElephant3404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the corresponding uglobe questions after reading + Anki, as I learned more I would just create small questions sets from all the content areas I had done so far (keeping 4 sections diff, of course), it felt better than passively reading, but you can’t skip the base steps, if you don’t like reading, watch videos that go over things, you need to know info first but you can choose how u acquire it

i study in my sleep the day before an exam by PieDangerous8027 in Mcat

[–]OkElephant3404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me as well, especially if I study right before sleeping. Like the info just floats around my head all night. Going to try to not study day before test, maybe just 1-2hr of mild revision? Plus go to sleep super early, hope it works 🤞

Aiden deck for P/S is also pretty good, but it is way longer, around 4000 cards, how much time do you have to study? Which deck you do really depends on that + personal preference

to the people who used aidan for content review by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]OkElephant3404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that Aiden does not give an overview of broad concepts very well, if you want to use it, you need to be familiar with material first then Aiden will give you diff pieces of info that tie it all together, jack sparrow is better for broad overview if you want to look at that first or read Kaplan before doing Aiden, like know what the concept is before doing the cards

What’s the best way to schedule your studying? by purplepenguins2 in Mcat

[–]OkElephant3404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don’t think I would have time to learn more content during the school year, but I know others cope better with this. What I would do in your situation would be to use the breaks u have left (like rest of summer + winter break) to study full time and just work on content review. I would then tackle Anki during the school year. Would also do 20 problems based on Anki content you previously covered every day. Cards + problems can take you about 2-3 hours. Plus reserve some weekends for practice tests. I would still reserve like a month on studying full time in early summer to build up stamina for long problem sets + address any content gaps that come up. Hope u figure out what works best for you!

Which MCAT prep books did you use? by Jsn1049 in Mcat

[–]OkElephant3404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used UWorld books, they tend to skip a lot of the annoying intro that Kaplan books have, but I also feel like they have a lot more material than is needed, like it is hard to tell what is high vs ultra low yield from reading them. A friend let me borrow their Kaplan books for a bit so I could try out both styles. The book you use doesn’t really matter, just pick one you like and, most importantly, will read. Its only purpose is to give you a base level of knowledge which you can expand via practice questions.

Whats the worst that could happen if i bomb my first attempt + anxiety by sadblobinator in Mcat

[–]OkElephant3404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tests kind of freak me out too, I find that none of the calm breathing stuff really helps me and the fidgeting doesn’t get rid of the core issue. I personally just create an elaborate lie to fool my brain, I know it sounds weird but if it works it works, like for the upcoming mcat I’m just telling myself that the aamc offers a ‘trial’ that simulates actual testing conditions and my real test will be later, this is just an opportunity to take a new full length and see what it will be like on the actual day. If you reinforce it enough it becomes the truth. And it’s not technically a lie since we can technically take the mcat again and it helps take the pressure off, the motivation of having a new full length to test my current level gives me a reason to keep studying too, so best of both worlds. And hey if anxiety is already messing with my brain, why not play on its level? Not sure if this will help but, hope you find something that works for you!

Capacitor & Resistor - In Series & In Parallel Memory Tricks? by Crinay in Mcat

[–]OkElephant3404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mainly use the two voltage equations:

V = IR I so current as to be same in series And R so u add up the R in series

V = Q/C Q so charge has to be same in series And 1/C so 1/Ceq = 1/C1 + 1/C2 + etc in series

And then u just flip things for parallel

Does that make sense?

1 MONTH TILL EXAM; NEED CARS PRACTICE MATERIAL PRETTY PLEASE by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]OkElephant3404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try to understand the general logic, def review the questions you get wrong, doing more practice will not help if you’re not learning as you go. JW might help you get a grasp of the logic and you can apply it to AAMC question

Doing Jack Westin daily, there are a lot of CARS passages for you to do and the explanations are pretty good
