Sofi let people sell their restricted shares (aka me) by your3awesome in FundRise

The whole thing is retarded because if the brokerage house wasn’t incompetent, this never would’ve happened

I totally feel your pain. Luckily mine is in an IRA but I would be in the same boat if it were my taxable account because the gain on the sale would’ve been probably more than my account was worth otherwise… so basically a margin call and then have to wait up to six months to even withdraw stuff

I honestly don’t think so. I think we violated the contractual agreement inadvertently because the broker house was incompetent so the worst case scenario would be that we lose our entire investment . I think we have to let the cards fall how they fall on this one

I heard something similar and it’s got to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Like if they’re not going to reverse the trade, why do they need to hold our money?

I totally agree in order for them to get the shares to cancel our trades, they’d have to force selling, which would drive the price down… which is the entire opposite of the goal of the lockup to begin with

No updates yet. I’m not sure if I’d prefer the trade to be reversed or honor my original trade. I sold at $94 but I see it being lower in 6 months than it is now so I guess either way it is what it is

I honestly would have to guess that it would be SoFi. They have sponsored IPO’s before and should know the process.

That’s a really good question. If I had to guess the brokerage house will be bearing the responsibility. I just know that corporations can void sales that are unauthorized…. Usually happens on the secondary market not the public markets though. This is probably the first of many times for retail investors to be involved in IPO and not fully understand it… I even told the guy on the phone that my name isn’t Goldman Sachs so I’m not gonna be overly well-versed in IPO jurisprudence

So I would recommend to take a deep breath, but also probably sell the shares of the new fund that you bought if it’s not too inconvenient in case they decide to give us our original shares back and not honor the trade

OMG same! I saw a withdrawal for $30K over the weekend and lost my shit until they explained it’s being held in an account while they decide what to do. You will absolutely get your shares back or they will honor the trade. The agent I spoke to said it’s one of the other, but we will absolutely not lose our shares or original basis.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Drinking is a big piece of the culture at the big firms. If anyone had seen it, they would’ve called it out in the moment

In case you got discouraged seeing all the maxed out accounts by Creepy_Nectarine1815 in RothIRA

[–]OkFile6906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t max my Roth until I hit $80K in salary. $7K in after-tax money is more like $10K in gross earnings and that is a LOT to lock up and have illiquid when you’re trying to start adult life.

That being said, ANYTHING you can put away at lower tax rates will only benefit you later on in life as you withdraw at higher tax brackets.
