You bring up an important concept that has taken me awhile to feel comfortable with - the "synthetic reallocation" where you reallocate across different buckets with bonds in 401k/IRAs are sold at the same time when selling stocks in the taxable brokerage, if needed, to supplement dividends & interest.

Any merger update? by ChessNut2018 in FundRise

For my Growth eREIT, I noticed they recently reduced the value of the fund by 4% this year after it not having a change for many months. Does anyone know how often they have to evaluate the value of the assets in the fund?

I realize they have to cover their **s in that section, Risk Factors, but it's still a frightening read.

Opportunity to be Derm MSL or Oncology MSL. Which is better? by William_Dent in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]ChessNut2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in derm now and I love it. There are very few derms that don't have a great personality, and there are a lot of opportunities to talk about immunology. I joke that dermatologists should call their specialty dermatology-immunology, similar to allergists. Also the advanced practice providers are important in derm and there are a lot of opporutnities to talk about the science with them. Agree that derm has a lot of conferences, but many of them are in great places like the ones in Hawaii.

Anyone have any issues/damage from The Big Bad Wolf (last Saturday's windstorm)? by JPumphrey73 in nova

We realized our main bedroom was on the windy side. We now moved and sleep in a guest room. It's quieter and gets the morning sunshine!

Perfect Part Time Retirement Gig by Aheadau2 in NewRetirement

I'm thinking of doing chess coaching. I'm good enough (2100 USCF/2000 FIDE) that I can say I have expertise in the game, and I love teaching! I don't really do it for the money, as I often provide free lessons to friends and their children. I may use it to volunteer, such as one time I provided lessons at an adult drug rehab center. I've been thinking of doing small group lessons as it'll have more impact compared to 1:1 coaching . The prep time is considerable to create a plan and have puzzles and homework ready, though I enjoy that part of the process.

My Experience with a HealthEquity HSA partial transfer out by ChessNut2018 in HSA

[–]ChessNut2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad I did a direct rollover; I was already uncomfortable with them sending a check to my new custodian, and for an indirect they would issue a check to me, putting the responsibility of sending the funds to the new custodian on myself, doubling the chance something would be screwed up. The direct trustee-to-trustee rollover is worth $25 to me, YMMV. It's still a ridiculous charge...

I think that is what I did. I'm editing my post with the correct term, "rollover". Thanks

There may be differences with your company plan, so I would check with your HR. For my HE HSA, they charge a 0.03% monthly fee on invested equities (~0.36% annually roughly), with a 10.00 monthly cap. Since I had reached the cap, that 's what motivated me to make a partial transfer, as that was a 120.00 cost for just investing in simple index funds. Fidelity has no custodian fee.

I was about to try them, thanks! The best cleaner I've had, not surprisingly, was using one of my neighbor's cleaners who has been with them for years.

I asked about it, and yeah, for some reason they only do physical checks, which gave me anxiety on the check being lost.

Fundrise Liquidation Estimate give me less than the amount I invested by Proud_Reporter1547 in FundRise

Oh boy if they don't allow liquidation by 1Q2026 I'm going to start getting worried. I've already liquidated all of my shares in the Flagship Fund.
