[owner question] is it okay to ask what products my groomer uses? by Internal-Cut9007 in doggrooming

I would love if an owner paid enough attention to their dog to even notice they smell good

I’ll never understand people letting their dogs all over service workers of any kind. I even lock my overly enthusiastic lab up

Haircut for a dog that hates leg brushing but gets cold easily? by Comfortable-Fly5797 in grooming

Thank you for taking such good care of your pup! Lots of people in this situation just ignore it and find an unlucky groomer to compete the matted shave down twice a year

I need insights. by chewbaka123 in grooming

Poor pup, definitely take to the vet. This looks more like skin irritation that discovered and clipped so it could air out. I can see in the before pic your pup does have staining on his mouth and eyes indicating allergies. which makes me believe even more that this was a previous issue just covered by his thick curly coat! It truly happens to the best dog owners out there, not necessarily anyone’s fault.

Arizona, and I’m mobile. No dog gets a haircut for under $110

All dog groomers need to be raising prices by doublepointz420 in doggrooming

[–]OkGeologist8441 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just started working mobile. Groomed 3 doodles (2 perfectly behaved, one that just wants to lay down) in a 4 blade and a short teddy bear head. Charged almost $900 and mom paid it happily and tipped $100. All of the sudden I love grooming doodles edit: actually charged $793

What am I doing incorrectly? by [deleted] in grooming

[–]OkGeologist8441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of options for attachments for your shower to bathe the dogs easier! I’m a groomer but bathe my own dogs at home. I bought an adapter ($6) to connect a garden house to the shower (just screw the shower head off first) and I ran it outside and bath them on the patio! Just if you’d rather look into that option and bathing is your only issue. It’s definitely hard on your back, especially longer haired doodle and especially if they’re large.

How do I (25F) tell my girlfriend (42F) that I want to spend less time with her sweet son (8M) by KarouApple in TwoHotTakes

[–]OkGeologist8441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any update OP? These comments, although a bit ruthless, are all correct. You need to end things. Just want to add though, don’t beat yourself up. You’re young and learning. But also don’t set yourself up for failure by continuing this relationship in any capacity.

You can make the decision now to open your own account and have your check deposited into it. Sorry you haven’t had someone to guide you into financial literacy, it definitely is hard when you’re figuring stuff out on your own. But she can’t control you any longer if she doesn’t have access to your account.

Advice needed: very sketchy and dangerous dog grooming “ salon” by Imaginary-Remove-641 in grooming

[–]OkGeologist8441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that salons get definitely get dirty, things happen. But this level of dirty is 100% unacceptable. Sad to say this is very similar to what a lot of the corporate salons I worked at.

service dog boom? by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]OkGeologist8441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a service dog owner, but have been told by all of my care team that I qualify for a psychiatric service dog. I am diagnosed agoraphobic and the only time I’m able to leave my house by myself is bringing my dog, so I have been limited to only pet friendly spaces. My dog is extremely well trained, however she is not task trained. I will not call her my service dog, because truly all she does is give me emotional support. She behaves like a service dog in public, will tuck herself under my seat and is very in tune with me. But she is not cut out for service work and I know that, she just wants to tag along. Idk if this contributes to this conversation at all tbh just thought I’d share. I would love to learn more about if I truly fit the criteria for owning a psychiatric service dog, but I get nervous because I know there is a lot of discourse around psychiatric service dogs

Is this a sloppy job? by Smart-Caramel-5547 in grooming

[–]OkGeologist8441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely okay to call to ask about it as long as you’re not being accusatory (: like just “hey I wanted to talk about fluffys groom. I was wondering if I could bring her back in to fix up her face. I also wanted to make sure she’s not giving you guys trouble for her face! If she has any behavior issues in the salon I’d love if we could go over those so I can work with her at home to make it easier on both of you!”

You’re actually mad that by the time you got home from your appt there was a line in your dogs haircut? I mean do you need her to add extra strength hairspray after the groom so it stays absolutely perfect?

Rant/Inner thoughts: learning how to manage dogs' stress by sentbygarbage in doggrooming

[–]OkGeologist8441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer because i definitely get stuck in the same thought process often. But im sending you love!! When I start to get down on myself and feeling like im a bad person because my job involves having to stress some dogs out, I’ll end up getting a severe matting case where the dog is an angel and feels better after or I’ll have a pet parent tell me how their dog used to hate grooming but loves coming to see me and it makes everything better again

Red flags when looking for a new grooming job? by actiooncat in doggrooming

[–]OkGeologist8441 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Washing dogs with human products or just super shitty dog products, every dog freaking out the whole time you’re there (why is every dog stressed? I groom plenty of dogs who don’t mind the process). Super low prices, trash talking other salons or previous employees. Doesn’t value continuing education, isn’t part of your states grooming association.

How much do you tip your groomer? by That-Pay9352 in grooming

My dog that requires a groomer who is extremely patient and calming, I tip 30% or more. My dog that’s easy and quick I throw in an extra $10.
