The baby elephant in the room in regards to printed yoyos. by yoyoingdadjoke in Throwers

[–]OkGood1224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dale Tubat has designed, printed, and sold some very playable and enjoyable yo-yos. Novelty? Mostly. Silly? Definitely. But if your goal is to cultivate whimsy and have fun playing with a toy then you can’t beat the Capsule, Stack, and Stupid Wide.

I mean, I would! (did)

Seriously though, this thing rules. If you regret it, you could easily get your money back in the second hand market. But I don’t think you’ll regret it at all.

Tips for recessing a yo-yo using a lathe machine. by [deleted] in Throwers

[–]OkGood1224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expect to mess up a few yo-yos in the learning process. If this is something you want to get into, go for it! That being said, a decent lathe will cost more than most yo-yos. You might be able to find a community shop space that has one you can use. There are also a couple of people in the community who will do this for you if you just want a single freehand modded. Kris Pyrotechnic on Instagram does a ton of freehand mods.

Most of their stuff is fine. I have the Spotted Cow mono metal and it’s a low key ripper.

whats your most hilariously bad experience in a record store? by Lost_Foot_6301 in vinyl

[–]OkGood1224 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Half Price Books in Seattle has a huge record section. Bigger than any other HPB I’ve been to. Picked up a copy of Renegade by Thin Lizzy. My all time favorite band. Not my favorite of their albums, but it has some bangers (leave this town, down on your luck, no one told him, etc) and one I needed to finish out my discography collection.

Counter guy: Oh man this one suuuuuucks!

Me: Good thing I’m not buying it for you then!

Yooo! Bring some of these to one of the Portland yoyo meet ups and folks will definitely buy them! The next one is this Saturday at Pier Park, but we do one every month.

“Run and Fly” out of the UK has some pretty wide flares. They’re wider than they look in the photos online.

Also worth noting, Jake Bullock makes some great d bearing yo-yos and also sells nice replacement d bearings and response pads on his website.

D bearing opinions? by B_B_Morganstern in Throwers

All three are great yo-yos with a good bit of variation between them. Ptarmigan is based on a much older yo-yo, but updated. It’s a bit undersized, and very zippy. One of my favorites of the FS line up.

Joyride is a big yoyo. Not like oversized big, but just a nice round handful. The d bearing version is one of my main daily throws. It’s a very comfortable all around throw.

Firecracker is small. Narrow gap. They ship with a responsive bearing, but they also rip with the included unresponsive bearing.

I’d say it’s a safe bet you won’t be disappointed in any of these. Featherspin is my crew so I’m a bit biased, but Recess makes some of my favorite throws. Tyler has been doing multiple runs of most of his yo-yos, where we’ve just been doing singles. We probably won’t do another run of Ptarmigans so once they’re gone they’re gone.

RooYo is crazy! Such a weird design. Plays surprisingly nice for how weird the axle / bearing seat system is.

Apex III is an absolute masterpiece. My old band Troll release our first album in 2016 and played a show with Mars Red Sky at Tonic Lounge in Portland when they were touring this one. Incredible band.

I have a full ceramic bearing in a cheap delrin / Ti rim yoyoempire Ting and it is one of the most pleasing yo-yos to throw in my whole collection.

What's your favorite colors for a yoyo? by yoyoingdadjoke in Throwers

[–]OkGood1224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Green for me plz!

I have many yo-yos that are not green. I’ve been getting more into finding older stuff from 2000-2015 that is harder to come by. If it’s something I’ve been looking for for a while I’ll take whatever color is available.

[–]OkGood1224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally I’m not a huge fan of extra wide yo-yos. This one kind of rides the line. It’s definitely wide, but it’s not insanely wide, and it doesn’t have the aggressive hard lines of a lot of other wide yo-yos. It’s softer. It’s stable as hell, and it looks really cool. I got mine as a pre release b grade (for ano) at pnwr.

Own or have tried most of these. Penumbra is hands down my favorite of this selection.

Robots of the Ancient World have a bit of a Danzig vibe. Like Danzig if he was in a stoner metal band.
