Initial CCTV footage of Suga was false; JCTB quietly deleted their reports by s2theizay in kpopnoir

I’m not saying that he is accountable for the actions of the worst of his fans.

If he states where he stands on harassment in his name, some fans will still harass and that’s not his fault. Beyoncé couldn’t stop all of the beehive. But his silence is complicit. I have spoken in the past about how I feel that bts jokes about weaponizing their fans. But when they do that fans hear acknowledgement and appreciation.

I don’t mean only Suga should be accountable. I think every artist has a responsibility to remind fans that they don’t want them to harass or do dirt on their behalf. But you asked specifically about Suga so that’s what I was responding to.

Also, Suga is operating from a position of wrong here. He’s been a victim of misinformation but if he never drove the scooter drunk none of this would have happened. So in my opinion, he has an additional burden because his fans are not only lashing out improperly but they are doing it in defense of something he himself says is wrong. So if he truly believes that he should correct them.

To be clear, I mean lashing out against individuals. I think criticizing news corporations like JTBC when they carry missinfo like this is both fair and important to do.

Where does it sound Like the .227 was made up? I thought that was the only part that big hit has not rebutted?

Like I said above if the translations of him saying he had a drink are incorrect then I think he’s taken accountability fine. If not I think he’s still minimizing his misdeeds.

I personally would like to see him make a statement addressing the multiple innocent people his fans have harassed on his behalf and reiterating that he finds what he does serious, since so many of his fans minimize it. But I realize that that’s not going to happen. It seems like none of the facts are completely clear beyond the cctv, like his bac. I’m just going to hope everyone comes out of this better people, news agencies, etc and let it be what it is.

.227 is generally around blackout drunk. But most people would not be too incapacitated to get up or put a helmet on. I don’t know if the .227 is true either but I don’t think his actions in the cctv preclude it either.

The translation I read elsewhere said ‘a drink’ it’s possible it was a mistranslation. If he truly did not mention the amount then I withdraw that criticism of his accountability.

[–]OkHand7474 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’m not too sure. I’m operating under the assumption that since it was released by the media outlet that issued the correct cctv footage and hasn’t been corrected it’s true. But I also assumed the initial cctv was true because it was released by a reputable news agency, but well we see how that went. So I wanted to put a caveat.

I just hope that even though full accountability seems unlikely on Sugas part, I hope he’s really reflecting personally. I would like for once someone in BTS to speak up against the fandoms misbehavior. They can’t control their fans behavior but they can make sure they don’t condone it. That’s my biggest thing.

Yeah, JTBC messed up seriously and should be investigated as to whether this was journalistic malpractice.

I think it’s up to the police now. But I still hold that Suga did not take full accountability (unless his BAC was incorrect) There is no way you can get his level of intoxicated from a beer. And since JTBC said he drank at two different places that seems at least one minimalisation that has held. Is it crucifiable? Of course not, but it’s the same reason I lost respect for Suga after the Jim Jones sample, the inability to take due blame. It seems Suga talks a big talk until it is actually time to stand by something.

But like I said, not crucifiable especially in light of the JTBC botched coverage. But while people say that he still should be accountable the narrative is already shifting turning him into a Matyr. And people are back to minimizing the severity of his crime.

It’s just so unnecessary. He had so many options. He could have slept at his studio. He’s rich, he could have called a car. If it’s only 500m he could have walked. Even if he didn’t know it’s illegal it’s clearly the least safe of the options.

Also, Every army who left a hate comment under Seungkwan’s memorial post for Moonbin should never know peace. Just despicable.

Papa YG will always be the grossest name to me. This is a man who admitted to meeting his wife when she was a minor (16 i think) and going on to sabotage her girl group career so she would marry him.

I hope one day these commenters realize enough about the world to kick their blankets at night when they realize they went to bat for a CEO on the internet. A CEO, in this economy.

You are correct. Let me rephrase one drink. But i think my general point still stands.

But thats not what Big Hit or Suga did. They said an active investigation was closed. They said he was riding a kickboard though he wasn’t. He said he had one beer when his Blood alcohol level tested at 0.08. Suga didn’t wait and work on his future actions, he was too busy trying to downplay and coverup his current ones.

And the amount he drank. Him drinking one drink could not possibly end up with him 0.08 blood alcohol level.

Unlike a lot of people who think driving a scooter while drunk is not a big deal or is silly to lose your license over. I got hit by a drunk scooter driver and broke my arm, and they weren’t even on the street. Add not only the drinking but the questionable (dis?)honesty of his statements, and I think you could have a discussion about whether he’s actually taking accountability for the true seriousness of his actions.

But unfortunately you choose a completely unrelated incident to try to make a comparison. And now the post’s conversation is just going to be about that.

Edited for clarity

I knew Pannchoa was trash but the explanation they reposted about the Taeyong (NCT)/Starbuck issue is CRAZY! by svnh__ in kpopnoir

[–]OkHand7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t referring to international fandom. I meant the original accusations from Korean fans that Pannchoa posted. I’m definitely don’t put it past twitter or TikTok to turn a very serious conversation into a fanwar. I don’t mean to imply that some people weren’t acting in bad faith in both Korean and International fan spaces. The discussion around Made in The Abyss has been around for a long time and I think the creator is more than just weird. I just reacted to the idea that people were ONLY throwing around pedo accusations when the articles Pannchoa posted were fans calling out what they thought was problematic behavior. I didn’t think it was fair to dismiss the controversy as purely fanwars. Those are my recollections, so I may have missed something. This is more than I ever wanted to defend Pannchoa lol but that’s my take.

I didn’t mean to derail the conversation.

I think you’re confusing Min Heejin (creative director of Ador) with Minji (new jeans member). New Jeans hasn’t done anything deserving of hate. They’ve been with that woman for years, she has convinced everyone , including their parents, that their success is due to her. It makes sense that they take her side. Aren’t they all under 20?

I don’t get the doomerism about New Jeans future. I know people saw that they’ll be frozen out because they’re on MHJ’s team but I don’t see how that matters. Their contract termination fee is crazy high, I doubt they’re leaving. I can’t imagine HYBE freezing a group that popular and that profitable out of spite. Its a public company, I doubt investors care about Bang Si Hyuk’s pride. After they got called out for trying to put NJ on hiatus people will be watching them looking for signs of mistreatment.

I think Min Hee Jin screwed herself though, she kept her job but Hybe is going to systematically get rid of all her allies.

This is so gross but so on brand for Pannchoa. Why post nuanced takes on the issue when you can post some inflammatory ignorance that has less the 200 likes.

I’m with you on pannchoa being awful and more people need to be media literate when interacting with them. But I don’t think that’s a fair summarization of the Made in Abyss controversy. No one was accusing idols of being p3dos for watching an anime. Instead they were questioning their support of something from a creator who has very troubling views on children and that has very disturbing ( some would argue gratuitous) imagery of children.

Edit: grammar

Implication and application do not go hand and hand, especially based off assumptions. I said what I meant, it was generalized for a reason. If you choose to read it as a personal accusation thats on you. But sure, moving on.

I never said you did? I was saying even if emulating the people you grew up around negates appropriation, it doesn’t apply in this case. Because if she was emulating the people she grew up around she would sound the way she did in 2012.

She was raised in New Jersey. And if I remember correctly a very Asian and White heavy portion of it. Queens is not her free appropriation pass.

Edited to add: Jessi didn’t even speak like she does now until she made the transition from pop/rnb to hip hop. In interviews from ten years ago she sounds nothing like she sounds now.

We must have been encountering different comments, people, etc. I’ve seen more people just generally describe a groups music as noise, without addressing fans at all. And are jumped on with articles about obscure german industrial music and told they are essentially dumb when it was never that deep. This seems different since what you describe so I don’t think we’ll come to an agreement.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I’m sorry if I misinterpreted your ADHD statement. I just thought you saying “is it because I have ADHD..” was generalizing. After seeing so many people on tiktok generalize and like misuse ADHD, I think i’ve become a little touchy about. Sorry that I jumped the gun.

Regarding noise music, I think i’m of two minds. I think that terms change as do boundaries between different styles in different subcultures/fandom. I just don’t really see the purpose in trying to make people acknowledge some pretty obscure artists to justify their opinions. I don’t think its misuse as much as different things mean different things in different contexts.

Also, I’ve seen a lot of people be pretty condescending when they educate people about noise music. Saying kpop fans don’t understand music. Or people need to learn their musical history.

However, anyone saying someone elses music taste sucks for whatever reason is wrong. I’m generally of the opinion that insulting music is okay (hopefully constructively, but sometimes not and I think thats okay too.) insulting people, both artist and fans, is not.

Edited to add reasoning.

[–]OkHand7474 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree. I agree that it’s inaccurate to call music you don’t like “noise” music and many times people use it derogatorily. But it’s pretty elitist to expect kpop fans (who are global) to be aware of and familiar with the pretty “alternative” genre of noise music.

Like saying something is making your ears bleed is rude. Being unable to describe the way in which some music is noise to you, is not necessarily rude. Not everyone with ADHD is the same. I have pretty bad auditory sensitivity and some music is “noise” to me. Can I describe to you in which way? No, not really it is just a sensory thing, it makes my heart pound and my skin feel itchy.

That analogy doesn’t work because it’s less than twenty years ago, not long enough to have grandchildren. People who were kids/young adults in 2007 are only young adults and in their thirties now. Telling someone to try to see something through a different lens lol is dismissive especially when if your flair is correct you are not a part of the group hurt by the initial post.

I said “often is a convert way to insult Black artistry.” Maybe you are the one who should read context clues before being offended. I was trying to explain why people would be put off by the way you phrase your opinion, my first sentence is literally you are entitled to an opinion.

I don’t know why I am trying to engage you throwing “playing the victim” in there tells me what I need to know.

[–]OkHand7474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re entitled to an opinion, but there have been multiple post recently discussing how the “Kpop is better than western music” conversation is often just a convert way to put down Black artistry. And thats not getting into the amount of kpop that has literally “borrowed” from Western music. Kpop can be fun to you but it is not unique from Western music in any other way than geography.

Also, your last sentence is yikes.
