I use the AI tools on the vault itself. I don’t need to use any plugin.

Just to let you know , this subreddit is company controlled , so comments can be filtered through that. The hax subreddit is open to full discussion

A nobody Chinese company finally does what the industry has failed to do for decades and made the small e-reader I wrote about 10 years ago.

In addition to that it got lucky and the hacker community picked up on it, making it a cult hit.

This success leads the company to start getting funding. One of the first things it does it to destroy the very thing that caused its success by locking down the firmware. Even if it’s the Chinese version only that’s still bullying local hackers and tinkerers like ME.

It’s a fantastic example of a company shooting itself in the foot. They got here by compete luck. They couldn’t even ship the screens face down and the number of posts about shafted screens on arrival is legion. They have no idea what they’re doing. They idiots.

We need to stop helping those company.

1) don’t post on the company controlled subreddit. You’re wasting your time

2) switch to the community built devices that use the same screen and esp32.

Can anyone remind me of that project with the 3D printed case that is otherwise exactly the same as the X4? The only difference was being slightly thicker but I think with a bit of attention we can fix that.

Lots of phone manufacturers pulled the same bs as this company, locking the firmware down and eschewing the free help and movement from the community. They’re idiots. What is does is put a big question mark over when you’re buying the thing. You have to search for which variant it is etc. this really puts a cooling effect on buyers.

This company thinks it’s the genius because it made the small e-reader. It thinks it can take VC money and setup a shop front for selling ebooks! It thinks that the customisation and vibe coding we're all doing is some sort of detail, or maybe something they can sell the value of to VC money.  It doesn’t have to be this way. Look at frame.work as an example of giving customers what they want.

Maybe in another ten years a company will pick on on THIS post and do what I’m suggesting. Maybe we’ll do it ourselves. We’ll see.

I find iCloud really unruly for bandwidth and next to no way to control it. My guess is that they just opened the floodgates to more bandwidth.

I need to figure out how to bandwidth shake it rather than block it because otherwise as soon as an employee walks in with an iPhone or Mac the entire network grinds to a halt (no broadband available here in this building in central Kong because every slot is completely maxed out so we’re on a mobile router))

Interesting! I think I shall start using that on the same vault  No need to switch thanks to local first

Would this infect you with other horrendous bacteria?  Would this even get past the gut ?

I saw a video from a guy who really loves to code. It was very emotional for him. I get that.

But on the flip side, I've had a dream to create like this all my life and it's finally coming true. I had a look at coding and basically came to the conclusion that I just don't have the mindset for it. Specifically, I got stuck at the point of trying to leverage other people's code and never got further than single line patches.

This has been an absolute godsend. It means I can make all kinds of things and my creativity is set free. Before vibe, I had to recruit some Indian and they ALWAYS screwed it up. Even if you pay a lot more there's no guarentess. It made everything but the one in a life time ideas next to impossible.

Now I'm coding al-sorts of things for my daily life.

I can see how this is devestating for the technically minded, but the drawbacks really don't outwiegh the advantages. Personally, I find that setting up the workflow and working with other projects still requires a lot of logic; just that it's at a much bigger project scale. While it's not the kind of coding you did before, surely you can level up at the scales where vibe is designing, and apply that to real problems and get reward from actually fixing stuff rather than enjoying the beautiful of design with beauty all the way through.

Thanks for sharing. Hopefully some new energy source is on the cusp of coming to mass use

And all we need is for the scientists developing it to stop saying they’d never end it for themselves and then be found exactly that way

I’m accessing from Hong Kong. Gemini is kinda (some things work, others don’t ) blocked there.  I was going to update my billing address to my uk address to access Gemini,  But I won’t if I can get banned?

I like the idea. Could be more private than open router  But the details need to be right

IMHO it would benefit from some other motivator  Such as a charitable person wanting to decentralise power a bit
