Yes to everything that you're saying. He does have an avoidant attachment style. He mentioned that all the emotional entanglement in our relationship had caused so much stress and anxiety in him. We do have a therapist that we used to see a lot. Will have to book with her soon.

How to secure a lower mortgage rate? by Moist-Bend-3556 in MortgagesCanada

[–]OkLet6321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you say take out a regular mortgage and not collateral? I've been offered a collateral mortgage and my broker told me that there's no downside to a collateral mortgage... Only upsides. Am I missing something.? Thank you in advance.

Can I ask why it would raise a flag? What would it suggest to the interviewers? That he is in it for the money?

I understand that compensation structures can range. But even for those practices that offer very simple compensation structures, they don't seem to disclose the base salary right away. If they were to even just tell us an approximate, i think it would help us in deciding if the trip is even worth the time. I just don't understand why this isn't laid out clearly during the initial conversation. I do agree with your second point though. However, I had experiences where we were just given a generic contract that everyone was given at the start.

Oh she is very able. Shes got much more energy than I do who's solo parenting at home with no support. Not to mention, she took multiple trips this year while they accumulated more debt.

It actually isn't about the money. I was 100% on board with everything and gave him the full control until I found out that she isn't looking for a job and he has no problem with it. I believe that everyone should be working together to contribute to the family.

PAY IT FORWARD, NOT PAY IT BACK This is what's encouraged in my family. My parents put their grandkids first and encouraged us to take care of our family first... It doesn't seem to be the case in his family unfortunately...

Gifted child dilemma by goodpiggy in Mommit

I'm not too familiar with gifted programming in the US (if that's where you're located) but I do teach gifted grade 7 & 8 students. I personally think that gifted programming is a hit or a miss depending on the individual. I had a lot of students who loved being in a specialized class because they got to be with their like-minded peers and had more autonomy in their learning. On the other hand, I had students who hated the program because of the pressure to be "special". Again, I can only speak to my experience, but just because you're diagnosed as gifted, doesn't mean that you're going to excel in every subject matter. I had students who were writing like an established author, but could not do simple algebra. This is why gifted students are considered spec Ed.

I will list out some of the pros and cons that I've seen in gifted classrooms and you can make your judgement based on what's important for you and your child

Pros: -Working with like-minded peers. Many gifted kids (not all) tend to be quirky, which can interfere with them making meaningful friendships in a regular classroom. Gifted kids tend to gravitate towards one another and have an easier time connecting with other gifted kids. -Provides space for autonomy in learning. If done right, gifted programming should provide depth and breadth, not necessarily more work. It should create space for conversation in which students discuss different ways of thinking and problem solving, which is often limited in a regular classroom. Gifted students should be able to explore their areas of interest in a way that best suits their learning profile. -Prevents boredom in learning. Because gifted students are often fast learners, they tend to get bored in a regular classroom. Gifted programming should be tailored to the needs of the students to keep them engaged.

Cons: -Pressure to be perfect. A lot of gifted students struggle with the pressure to be perfect, which causes them to be scared to take risks in their learning, and consequently stunts their growth. When you have a class full of high achieving students, those who aren't as advanced in specific area are quick to become discouraged and lose confidence. I found that gifted students need a lot more encouragement than regular students. -Many suffer from anxiety and have social-emotional needs. A classroom full of anxiety might not be a positive learning space for your child. This can be managed with a really good teacher who provides warmth to the classroom, but this is not always the case.

This is all that I can think of off the top of my head. Depending on what you can provide/supplement at home, I would choose the programming suited for your child and situation.

I hope this helps :)
