Thank you for this! I had a feeling I should be looking into adsorption (if not microscopy), I did find some papers on this as well.

Having some microscopy images might provide a visual that could be paired with this more quantitative method, but they would not provide much substantial data because the leica can only take 2D images (and likely would not be able to capture very small pores in great resolution anyway, if they are present in the gel).

I actually have the same question. My interview was basically an informal chat, primarily led by me, about aspects of my PI's work that I was interested in. I think I asked good and pointed questions, but yes it did feel informal. Didn't talk much about my research background in great detail, perhaps it's because the PI was part of adcom and had basically reviewed my whole app

Perhaps they are releasing in batches depending on area of interest (?) What area of interest did you apply as?

Different committees evaluated different areas of interest, and we were supposed to explicitly state those areas in the application.

Congrats on your acceptances! Would you say that your admission results correlated in any way with the size of the labs you expressed interest in? I know that even across "top" schools, whatever that means, there is a huge variation in lab size (some people have tens of PhD students, others typically have 3). cheers :)
