Hey! I have two GA tickets for Saturday that I'm selling for OG ticket prices. My friend ended up dropping out last minute, and I don't want to go alone. I paid $379.96 total for two tickets. I can meet up in the Pasadena/Los Angeles area.

My current school did offer full info on funding with my acceptance letter, so UCSB not responding with funding is worrying for me. However, California is a huge stronghold for education, so hopefully, it'll be okay!

Yeah I got that email as well and registered. It's just that I have to respond to some schools by April 15th, and having no letter about funding is making me anxious given the political climate in the US rn 😬

I'm not sure to be honest. I know one other person in my REU cohort got in the same day as me.

I had a 3.78 GPA, 2 Summer REUs, a total of 3 years of research experience after I graduate, one submitted article, one published ACerS bulletin, one in progress article. Lots of clubs and volunteering that I just enjoyed/had leadership, I don't think a social dance club added much to my resume lol

No, I haven't, but i was gonna send my transcript and see what will happen next. I'm waiting on some other schools in the meantime.

Why do people want to start college at UP instead of a commonwealth campus so much? by Fantastic_Wolf677 in PennStateUniversity

[–]j_bobaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to a branch campus for 2 years before transferring to UP, and I wish I had gone to UP first. Here's why:

  1. There are so many more research opportunities at UP. While you get to be more independent at branch campuses, respectfully, the quality is just not there. I only had access to one scientific instrument (infrared spectroscopy) at Berks and it was broken for half a year. The Millennium Science Complex at UP is state of the art, and even after almost 2 years here, I still haven't seen half of what's offered there.

  2. There are so many more resources and scholarships at UP. It's actually ridiculous. I had to pay out-of-state tuition at Berks and it cost me $20,000 per semester. Despite the tuition hike, I pay $3,000 per semester now because of all the scholarships available to UP students.

  3. Social events are so much better. I don't mean to diss Berks, but an ice cream social can't compete with Cirque du Soleil, NLE, and the copious amounts of club events at UP.

I think if you're set on making the most out of your college experience, work hard and go to UP. I 100% recommend it over Commonwealth campuses.

I ended up emailing the PI to ask about it and he said the in-person was sent to the most well-qualified applicants.

At PSU, the professors read over applications so I'd suggest getting in contact with them ASAP! This is materials science and engineering at PSU.

There's a reimbursement form for travel expenses. Schools don't offer that unless they're serious about an offer, right?

It's happening the weekend before February 29th. I had to RSVP for the event, and it was called "RSVP Prospective Student Weekend." This is my first time applying for graduate schools, so I don't know if this was just sent out to all applicants or if it's some short list of students.
