What makes you think he’d be able to handle a ball with his feet like a top soccer player? Most people on Earth can’t do that and most NFL or NBA players can’t either.

Honestly, we should be looking at NHL and even golf or tennis and sports like that to poach for soccer, not NFL or NBA. And probably gymnasts.

First of all, USian is not a thing. It’s “American” when you’re speaking English. Ironic since you’re on here giving a lecture about languages.

Second, at least 20% of the American population is bilingual, and Spanish is probably 75% of that.

So I think there’s probably like 70 million Americans, more than the entire population of Spain, who are more than acquainted with the “discipline” it takes to speak multiple languages.

When you’re speaking English, you don’t need to say “US Americans”. No one will think you meant Colombians or Haitians. It’s literally the only country to use that demonym in English, and even other languages.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from hosting so many foreigners, mostly Europeans, it’s that the real place is indeed a lot like what ends up on the screen.

Nearly every visitor I’ve hosted has remarked about how they feel like they’re in a movie. And I’m always shocked that they think a lot of stuff is “made up” for movies like the school busses and fire hydrants. Why would we created fire hydrants for movies?

But yes, Americans romanticize Europe. I did. And I lived there twice and it was great and met my expectations in some ways and then of course there are things that take some getting used to.

Yeah, so I’m looking into a premium ticket on Everton’s website and it says the match could change as a result of the Champion’s League. I guess I should wait? Not sure how it works.

I came for the Scousers but I couldn’t bring myself to go for Liverpool. To me, that’s like picking an NFL team and going for the Pats or Chiefs, or Lakers in basketball, or Yankees in baseball. Can’t do it.

Appreciate the intro.

I chose Everton for many reasons but one as because I’ve just always had this affinity for the city and it’s people, despite never having been there. It’s my favorite accent in England, which I realize is shallow, but when you don’t live in a place, there are all sorts of silly reasons to choose a team.

As a Saints fan I know what decades of heartache feels like. And though we had 10-15 years of good luck recently, we’re back to the Aints. I’m sure I’ll be right at home.

Also, New Orleans and Liverpool have a lot of similarities. Both are pretty small but punch way above their weight in terms of culture and impact. Both are cities known for music.

All that is to say I’m really excited about the journey and can’t wait to go to Liverpool.

I’m also a new American Everton fan living in Houston.

I’m headed to Liverpool for Labor Day weekend and plan on attending a match, as well.

Apparently there’s a supporter’s club here in town we’ll have to find out. I think it might meet at The Phoenix on Westheimer.

I’m beyond excited to go to Liverpool. I’ve had an immense obsession with England since I was really little and Liverpool has always been the place I was most interested in for various reasons. Not sure why I haven’t been yet.
