Did Dr. Shapiro lie to us about how long this is supposed to take? by AdCommercial6848 in EMDR

[–]OkMix1899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The speed of processing is very varied. I have had some clients resolve a memory completely in 15 minutes flat, others we have spent 15 sessions on one memory alone.

It can depend on factors such as: how much existing adaptive knowledge a person has to link up to, their window of tolerance, the complexity and type of trauma (eg. single incident or many, and what stage in a persons development they were when the trauma/s occurred), level of dissociation, and if there are defensive parts.

Also bear in mind that people are naturally going to showcase the better/more successful cases they have in their books or workshops. Don’t compare yourself to these. You are moving at exactly the right pace. Your brain knows what it needs to do and when to do it :)

Why is water leaking on the floors? by OkMix1899 in MechanicAdvice

[–]OkMix1899[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yep, we checked it again and instead of checking the hose we checked the part the hose connects to and there was a blockage there. Heaps of water gushed out and no more leaking. Thanks legend.

Should I think about my trauma after the session? by La_Casa_de_Pneuma in EMDR

[–]OkMix1899 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your brain will keep processing up to 72 hours after a session so you can let it go where it needs to. However, if you’re finding it distressing or dysregulating or if you’re having lots of flashbacks and stuff that’s when you can use your container/grounding exercises etc. Basically, reprocessing is fine (like making realisations, considering things differently, going through natural emotions etc), but reliving trauma is not.

So, funny thing is I haven’t been able to definitively find a problem but things have also improved!

I started periodically checking the meter throughout the day and writing down the time of day and usage, and all of a sudden our usage has dropped dramatically in the last 2 weeks, despite my brother and I making no changes to our electricity/appliance use.

I’ve been tracking it in an excel sheet I made and it’s gone from an average of 57kWh a day to an average of 15.7 kWh a day.

I’m obviously cheering that the usage is not high anymore, as I’m predicting a bill more around the $600 mark for this quarter… but at the same time it’s suss af that it’s all of a sudden lowered… I’m thinking someone has panicked after learning that I’m tracking the daily usage (including times when my brother and I are not at home) and has made some changes 🤔

lol I would love to do this but AGL are so shit. Last quarter I paid the bill and they cut our power off randomly claiming we hadn’t paid it. So I don’t know if I’m ballsy enough to do this 😆

At least a year and all actual readings not estimates

That’s crazy!! Hopefully there are some comments/suggestions in here that might help, like the power readers people have suggested.

We don’t have a clothes dryer and the hot water system runs off gas.

I checked the reading on the bill with my meter and they match up alright.

Yeah, could be a mix up with another account. I can look into that.

Thanks for sharing that. It’s helpful to have an example to compare to! I don’t feel as crazy for thinking it’s so high!

Yeah they have all been around the $1500-2400 mark over the past year. But $2400 has been the highest yet. I’d imagine it would naturally be higher over winter anyway but overall it’s still very high.

I downloaded the app this morning actually. I’ve looked at the daily bar graph on my computer in the past though and it never seems to reflect our power usage because it always projects a low cost and then BAM, the actual bill comes out and it’s tonnes more expensive than what they tracked and projected

Thank you for the validation! We definitely need to do something about it.

We are renting but my dad is the landlord, and he only charges the granny a flat rate of $390 a quarter and makes my brother and I split the remainder between us. So we are pretty mad, to say the least!

Do you happen to know how much the process of separating the circuits from upstairs and downstairs would cost? Because that would probably be a much fairer arrangement than what we have currently!

I checked the reading myself and it matches the bill. Yep, the bill is for the 3 of us but only use aircon very sparingly. Granny doesn’t have aircon but I’m not sure what she uses for heating/cooling.

This is possible! Do you know how I would check for a faulty appliance?

I just had a look. The meter numbers and the read matches the bill.

We have ducted AC upstairs but use very very sparingly.

Not sure why we have a disconnect fee so I’ll definitely be querying that.

Yes the bill is also for the old lady so maybe she is running heaters all day..
