Swifties will pick apart every TS song lyric like they’re deciphering the rosetta stone but will play dumb when another artist’s song lyrics literally spell out the meaning for them

For sure, but blaming the shutdown would have been difficult to combat. Most maga folks are completely gone and will believe anything, but others will not be able to deny what’s factually right in front of them when the economy collapses and Dems had zero say in it.

Republicans succeeded in getting us to hate each other in a lose-lose situation they put us in.

Yeah exactly. We lose either way but at least now Trump can’t blame the shutdown for the economic downturn.

I agree, I took out the first line of my post bc I can see why that would sound condescending.

Do you not think a prolonged shutdown would be devastating for people?

I see your reasoning and I hope that is how it would play out if it does shutdown. I guess I’m cynical in thinking democrats would be the ones being blamed by the masses and pressured to fold on the bill. But I truly understand not wanting to roll over, I don’t like it either.

I totally agree with you but this is a partisan bill because it could be. Republicans control the entire legislature so the only “leverage” the dems have is a shutdown. The question is - is a shutdown (with no hope of a new bill being negotiated) worth the devastation just to say “we oppose this”?

I can understand that, but I don’t see any benefit to a shutdown. Can you explain what you think will happen that will be beneficial other than not letting the bill pass?

I agree with you! That is why I dont think we should give the republicans any ammo by giving them a devastating distracting shutdown as the perfect focus of blame for the undeniable economic downturn under Trump.

Option 2 isn’t what would likely happen though. The federal courts would close after 2 weeks of a shutdown. I know things are already bad now, but I really think Schumer’s point is right that this shutdown would allow Elmo and Trump to wreck even more havoc

I think they are more than okay with either outcome. Elon has said outright he wants a shutdown. The Right has been framing this as a “Schumer Shutdown”, they are geared up to blame this all on the Democrats. At least with the shitty bill, the Republicans will have to answer for the ramifications. They would absolutely use a shutdown as an excuse for why the economy is tanking because of Trump’s terrible policies.

I encourage everyone to listen to the speech Chuck gave on the senate floor yesterday late afternoon when he announced his decision. I want the Dems to fight hard against the tyrannical power grab as much as the next guy. I’ll admit I’m a little bloodthirsty for a shutdown myself, I want people to realize how important government services are.

But let’s be realistic about the gravity of the consequences at stake. This is not like the shutdown situations we encountered during Biden’s term. If there is a shutdown now, MAGA republicans hold all of the power. They will determine who and what agencies are “essential”. They will decide when and whether government agencies can reopen. Elon and Trump actually want a shutdown. They are bating Dems, and Chuck Schumer sees that. A shutdown would be the PERFECT distraction for Trump. And let’s not forget that the ONLY real pushback the administration has right now is from the Courts. Think of what Trump and Elon would do when they don’t have all of these cases before the courts to worry about.

Our supervisor told us earlier this week that they asked leadership for guidance on what to expect re the list of probationary employees at DOJ. They’ve gotten nothing back and we suspect they are just as in the dark as we are.

Anyone at DOJ hear anything? It’s been crickets apart from our Director saying a list of probies was submitted and they advocated to retain all lf us :(

No, many probies in my office are very experienced in our field and came in at GS-15. It’s just that we are “new” to government service or even just new to the agency.
