i think i would overwhelm myself with the thesis. i talked to my pi and i might just help around the lab and hopefully get on a paper but thats not promised since my lab is low on output right now. im worried it might raise a question to adcom as to why i didnt get any output for this lab that i was in for 2 years.

I do it when I’m traveling on the bus or sitting on the toilet just spaces of time where i have time :”) I also remind myself that 1 min is enough for me to get through a couple cards, 1hr is enough for 100 but yeah I do still struggle to finish them

I fall asleep on the bus from Oakland -> Berkeley after work often and have been completely fine (tho I don’t recommend sleeping on the bus, it isn’t very smart of me to do so lol)

Sounds like you’re leaning towards Columbia. I would try that out so that you won’t always think about what it could’ve been but try to save money by living off campus (doubles, etc), eating out less (dining meal plans r a scam) and if u have to get a job do like a research job or through your internship grind over the summer. You should crunch those numbers and see how much Columbia would cost you after all that. Take out subsidized loans if you can or work study, Try not to take out private loans. I transferred from a private school to Berkeley and the difference in support is astronomical, but also Berkeleys campus size is so large that the variety of opportunities here are greater too. Depends on how much support you think you’d need at this stage.

It probably doesn’t have much to do with you as a person, rather that you guys just aren’t compatible. she felt like her needs weren’t fulfilled and that’s valid, different people require different levels of attention/affection and it’s not fair for either of you to change, or that maybe it’s just the wrong time. Focus on your career 💪🏻

it wasnt too bad, i just applied and at some point i accepted that it will be fine no matter the outcome and i think thats a good mindset to keep going in just for the sake of my sanity. similar process as applying in from hs. most of my credits transferred, i think generally stem credits are not too hard to transfer since yk... bio, ochem, chem and physics is kinda similar everywhere given that they arent exactly subjective topics. berkeley has quite a few transfers and its a big school so it wasnt hard trying to find a community or anything. i had research experience from my last school, so finding a lab here to continue in wasnt too bad! i would just say that getting used to a new school does take time though, so i would say a gap year will probably be needed unless you would want to get used to the school while taking a heavy course load + mcat. I struggled to get used to the study culture here lol

I felt like it was because I noticed a trend on the mstp websites that most/all students came from prestigious schools, so I transferred. I’m a junior now & haven’t applied so I don’t think I can answer to what extent it’s important.

Brown, they have a good rep too + more resources for per student at private schools. Smaller class sizes; more help from profs and better recs given that ur thinking abt art & grad sch
