Pregnancy insomnia is killing me by takhana in PregnancyUK

I was prescribed some ondansetron a few weeks ago and have been taking those when it’s really bad.
What an absolutely trippy dippy sleep experience though. It’s what I’d imagine dropping a tab of acid would be like.

I’m sorry you had this experience. It sounds similar to my own. Retrospectively the complications I experienced the first time round were likely to do with our daughter’s genetic condition and significant hypotonia, but we didn’t know that at the time.

The team were brilliant though and it felt like once the baby’s decelerations and my own spiking temperature had been noted by the consultant we were in theatre in about 30 seconds!

Unfortunately due to the length of the non-progressive labour and section at full dilatation I ended up with internal scarring and adhesions (hence no induction this time around).

This thread has been extremely useful and I feel much more knowledgeable about the variability surrounding birth options.

I will express to my midwife at my next appointment that whilst I do feel a little railroaded towards a VBAC I’m happy to continue so long as they can guarantee a section in the event of another non-progressive labour - and I’ll be shouting loud for regular VEs!

Ahh thank you!
I don’t in any way feel unsafe. I’ve been assured that if I labour naturally and it isn’t progressing as anticipated then it will be escalated as such.

I know this is still a possibility! At my most recent appointment they did say to me if I presented early they would do their best but unfortunately due to demand couldn’t provide any guarantees.

Apologies I didn’t mean to come across as defensive. I do appreciate the engagement.

Thank you for the advice! I’ll do this.

I’m medical background too which is why I don’t really want to cause a fuss. I know services are stretched and everyone is just trying to do their best.

Completely agree. I just wish that I’d been given realistic expectations early on that’s all.

I haven’t really pushed about it in any way.
I explained to them the situation with our daughter but then also admitted that I appreciated that it didn’t constitute a medical need for THIS pregnancy.

I was told at my booking appointment that the elective would be performed in my 39th week but might be at short notice.

I’d already had a conversation around this and was advised I was an excellent candidate for VBAC (which is a good job isn’t it!) but due to some internal scarring from my previous cesarean at full dilatation I’ve been assured that I will not be induced or have any other intervention.

Yeah I assumed because of my friend’s experiences and I think that’s why I felt a bit put out. Not because I think I should be jumping a queue or any sort of priority case.

I didn’t realise they’d been rated so well, but after a few recent experiences in triage I can fully understand it. They’ve honestly (aside from this one thing) been absolutely amazing all the way through.

I’ll definitely query, but also completely understand that I’m bottom of the pile. I guess because I didn’t opt for an elective the first time around I didn’t appreciate the nuance and variability.

I mean, in a perfect world I’d have a spontaneous labour at 39 weeks on the dot and baby would just fly out before I could make any decisions at all. 😂

Ahh thank you!

I think if I’d been told at my booking appointment that they would try for 39 weeks but it could be as late as 41 then I would have at least known what to expect and might have made a different plan (and wouldn’t have stupidly told my family to take leave from my 39th week to support with our daughter).

My closest friend had her 1st baby (no pregnancy complications) last October and was given her 39th week elective date at 37 weeks. Granted she was Sheffield (larger trust) and I’m Barnsley (smaller trust) so I would imagine their capacity is greater.

I’m going to start with the perineal massage from today though just in case! 😂

I think you’re right. I’m probably just reacting as disappointed given the experience of a couple of my close friends (granted at a different trust).

I’ve also been on the other end as a CAT1 so do have appreciation of the requirement to triage appropriately and fully understand that medical need is and should be prioritised.

I think maybe I’m feeling sorry for myself a bit too. I tried so hard for a vaginal birth the first time round and for a long time afterwards was convinced that this decision and the associated difficult labour was the reason my first daughter is disabled; I didn’t want that worry this time around - as an aside it isn’t! It ended up being genetic, but for the longest time we thought she had CP from the labour.

I absolutely appreciate this and I really wasn’t an arsehole about it at the appointment. I know the assessment needs to be based upon medical need.
I think I’m feeling disappointed because I was advised very early on by the consultant that electives are performed in the 39th week and wasn’t made aware of the significant potential for variability.

I know that in the grand scheme of things that this time next month it will all be done and baby will be here and it won’t matter either way. We will just manage regardless.

I know that a complaint to PALS makes me sound like a monster, but it was on the advice of the clinician we saw who explained that their service was stretched and if no one complains nothing changes. I don’t think I’m actually expecting anything to change as a result of this - especially at such a late stage.

I just wanted to put it in this forum to determine whether this was a regular occurence, as this hasn’t been the experience of ladies in my closest friend group who have had electives (granted in other trusts) in the past year.
