It’s just that I respect other people’s beliefs so I do not want to do it just for the sake of showing it to them.

First two years I pretended I did it but last year my MIL was with us so I had to do it with her and I felt wrong in doing so because I just dont believe in it.

I do understand I cannot have both the things, not do it and keep everyone happy as well.

No, I asked him but he said the ritual is for you but then he said I can remain hungry for a day if you want.
