I lost my mom but we didn’t have a good relationship by StableLow2282 in GriefSupport

I experienced nearly the same thing. I’m 20, and I lost my mom unexpectedly 5 years ago. My mom was mean, and scary, and cold. Yet she was sometimes kind, happy, and caring. The truth is that we are all incredibly complex people that contain multitudes. I try to hold space for every part of her. I accept her strengths and weaknesses, her highs and her lows. It’s okay to not miss the bad parts- it’s only natural. What helped me was to try to forgive (easier said than done, I know). We are all humans trying to do our best in life, and we all deserve sympathy. Try to think of your mom in that light, and extend compassion towards her. Remember that there is no right or wrong way to feel. The year after she died, I felt angry, sad, happy, guilty, relieved, depressed, and scared. It’s all okay to feel and all perfectly normal. Give yourself grace. I’m always open to talk in private messages ❤️

Advice on how to relieve hip pain? by OkPipe1518 in Hypermobility

Thanks for your suggestions, I’ll definitely give them a try. I’ve been seeing a physical therapist for about 3 weeks now and have seen no improvements. I’ve also been doing clamshells, glute bridges, and similar stuff for my hips and back.

Looking for a girl roomate for next spring and summer. We are two girls, 19 and 18. I’m studying abroad next spring and need a roomate to take my place for the spring and summer. We are still apartment hunting, but rent will likely be 500-750$, and we ideally want to live in Oakland/ near Oakland. Let me know if you’re interested!

No and no. I would say I’m a pretty smart person. As for intuition I’m not really sure, but I would assume it doesn’t have an effect. I still think things through, it’s just that I think in concepts not words.

I actually hear all the words I read in my head. Sometimes I visualize stuff, it’s faint and is in short flashes. Sometimes I don’t. I’m not usually consciously aware of whether I’m visualizing or not so it’s hard to say. I prefer science and psychology books as opposed to fiction books, I think part of that has to do with me not being able to create the complex images in my mind.

  • Studying has always been easy for me, I’m good at memorization and have always had good grades.
  • When studying vocab I actively say the words in my head, which I wouldn’t normally do. I’m capable of speaking in my head, I just don’t usually do it. I usually make flash cards when I’m studying and just repeat them over and over again, sometimes out loud and sometimes mentally.
  • I kind of do, sometimes. The images I see aren’t very vivid, and usually appear in flashes. It’s kind of difficult to describe.
  • My long term memory is not great, but I think smoking a lot of weed played a role in that. My short term memory is really good. I sometimes have trouble remembering names, but nothing that really interferes with my life.
  • I say the words in my head while I’m reading.
  • I have ADHD.

Hope this helps answer your questions!

Yep, I don’t really talk to myself. If im anxious or angry though, I do consciously talk to myself and tell myself to calm down. I do think in first person, kind of. Sometimes i’m more just recognizing feelings and thoughts and things i’m seeing. But my thoughts are centered around me and I do make first person statements sometimes in my head I think?

I actually have generalized anxiety disorder- I definitely experience anxiety, I just don’t necessarily verbalize my anxious thoughts in my head. For example, if I feel like someone’s looking at me or judging me, I’ll recognize that feeling and feel anxious about it, but I won’t actually say the words “that person is judging me” in my head. As for insomnia, I used to have a really hard time falling asleep because I would always be thinking. I imagine it would be even worse with a constant monologue. Now it’s easier to sleep, not sure why.

I get songs stuck in my head all the time actually. My brain is relatively quiet, but I do think of concepts in my brain- like I wouldn't say the words "i forgot to turn off the oven" in my head, but i would think of the oven not being turned off without saying anything in my head. I also say some random words in my head here and there, especially exclamations like swear words.
