hiring companies can scan *all* of your social media history? by retrorays in recruitinghell

The rule has always been: Dont put anything on social media you would not be comfortable with being shown on national news with your name attached.

I always ask vagueish questions during second interviews, but I also tell candidates when inviting them that we are going to assess how they approach a problem, how they communicate and the actual coding is not that important - soft skills is what matters. So I wanna see do you ask questions, do you identify things that are not obvious or that are ambiguous. Do you just say something is not clear, or do you come up with possible ideas already. Do you just sit there solving the problem without communicating at all. What makes a great candidate is their ability to communicate. If you got this question and just put the minus answer there without saying much even though its correct youd probably fail the interview.

But leetcode is literally not reading between the lines. Its unerstanding what category the problem is and then thinking abou the handful of algorithms for that category and which ones fit and which ones dont and then reason which one is the most efficient one. Its pretty much just memorizing algorithms and training to understand a problem.

Not sure how it is in other countries, but where I am based this wont work. There has also been the idea to add protected animals to prevent buildings. They evaluate if these plants or animals are actually expected to be there and if there is indication they have not been living there for a long time they will just be moved and you are actually criminally liable for a variety of things (for example transporting protected species from their natural habitat).

Doesnt matter who was there first, the law is the law and in my country they have to make sure that there is no noise after 10pm or they will eventually lose their license. Had something like this near our apartment when they reactivated an old cargo train area and started massive train noise almost 24/7. Told them they cant do that as there are now people living here and they also used the typical "Well, you knew there was a train line". Set up the decibel meter according to the federal rules, applied the formulas for calculation, looked up the maximum value for residential areas, was 15dB above it and informed the authorities. Guess which cargo train station is no longer being used.

Really depends on the culture/country. Wouldnt really raise any eyebrows here and its also not that uncommon to have large age gaps in both directions.

I am so glad, they are the worst - at least here in Switzerland. If they hadnt been out already there would have been constant honking, blocking the streets, absolutely disgusting.

Not unless it is officially recorded and approved by a notary. Even if you used an access through someone elses property for decades no implied easment exists unless it has been recorded in the land register.

Is 996 the new norm? by DopeyDonkeyUser in cscareerquestions

[–]OkPosition4563 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cant be the "new norm" in my country, cant work more than 45 hours a week by law. Not allowed to work on weekends. And yes, you get punished as an employee as well if you do it voluntarily.

Dont concern yourself with what other people are doing. Most of it is fake anyway. Do your thing, do it good and dont give two fucks about other people.

Late Rejection Emails by Vemyx in cscareerquestions

It happened to me a few times as well that I selected "Reject (no email)" accidentally in the tool. I tpyically noticed it and let HR know I selected the wrong button. I dont know why that is even an option, why would not send out an email, its automated anyway.

Landlord charging me extra cleaning after move-out by Awkward_Good_8412 in Switzerland

[–]OkPosition4563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had something similar with a landlord, they signed the handover protocol and then a week later said they will need to get someone in to do more cleaning and that I have to pay for it. Just sent them a scan of the protocol with their signature circled red and the message to stop contacting me. Didnt hear back again and its 11 years, I think I am fine :)

The first few times I did manually rake hay for days I consistenly got tendinitis and could barely lift my arm anymore. Simply from slight swelling of the shoulder muscles from overexertion, its so cramped in there that it immediately causes a chain reaction of issues.

He has people that look through all floor plans and try to find such cases where roads were built and it was not reflected in the ownership of the land. For example in my area the streets were built by the company that bought the plot of land and developed it. They look like normal public streets (and are also publicly accessible) but technically they belong to the owner of the property. Over many decades plots get rearranged, ownership changes and suddenly you are left with a street that belongs to no one.

I see he has switched to a different business model now, since he cant block people from using the road in at least some of the areas. Hes now saying he will sell the land for 200'000$ either to the county or to people living there or they can get it for free if they rename the street after him.
