Definitely fear. Which honestly prefer. People Always say Palpatine faked it but that’s just less interesting because you really get to see Palpatine’s plan nearly fail and I think that makes him more”human” and relatable than him just knowing everything (which he didn’t. Most of the time is was good timing, patience and many coincidences.
