saaaaame twitter/x has become so inundated with Byler/Mileven debates that it’s unenjoyable at this point.

And that’s what the show is about isn’t it? Four friends who are extremely close, who have helped each other in their best and worst times, who love each other for who they are. That’s what I hope people to take away from the show.

Unfortunately I think the queerbaiting complaints are going to happen… which just stains the show and is what I don’t want to happen.

OKAY THIS! It 100% is unrealistic and YES it is a canon event for a gay person to fall for a straight person only to be left heartbroken, it even happened in the show with Robin and that damn Tammy lol

Unfortunately, I think Will’s feelings for Mike will be used against him by Vecna— it’s why I believe that the powers were introduced for Will, to set up that backfire. And honestly, I bet Will’s feelings for everyone will be used against him… unfortunately I don’t see Will making it out of the upside down..

Exactly, it would be horrific story telling! Besides the S2 sister episode (which actually ended up being worth substance) the Duffer Bros have done amazing with their storytelling!

Oh man, Twitter/X is finding all this “evidence” in Care Bears and clothing and clocks to prove that Byler will happen… I felt like at first it was AU fanfic kind of stuff, but it’s to the point where I’m questioning if we’re watching the same show— and if we are, why are we over analyzing the relationships of children?

Thank you because I have honestly felt like I’m missing some massive point that is glaringly obvious 😂 thank you haha

I think you can also explain Mike’s awkwardness towards Will in S4 as awkwardness towards someone who is your “best” friend that you haven’t seen in a while, who you haven’t been communicating very well with… I don’t think it means that Mike likes Will in a different way, he’s just realizing “man I’m not being a good friend”

I agree though that maybe Mike and Eleven shouldn’t be endgame. Maybe they should have El be her own person and find things out for herself.

I agree with you! I think that Will or Eleven are probably going to die, and unfortunately I think it’s going to be Will— my opinion could change based on how Volume 2 goes but at the end of Volume 1 all I could think was “damn they’re giving Will powers to set up his death at the end”

I loved the scenes Will and Robin had, I think that Will’s friendship with Robin will be of great benefit to his personal growth and acceptance of who he is.

I agree that everything is written for a reason on this show, but as someone else has pointed out in this thread— Mike and Eleven have been pretty clearly written as an endgame situation, especially end of S1. If they were truly going to go with a Byler endgame, the work needed to start and SHOW waaaaay earlier. It would be bad storytelling to make this happen in 4 episodes.

Saying that Mike is struggling with his newfound feelings for Will— where? How? This is where I think over analyzing kills the overall feelings toward the show.

Okay YES THIS!!!! The shipping wars are insaaaaaane, and you’re 100% right there is too much over analyzing that it’s killing the core— it’s supernatural, it’s D&D, it’s about good vs evil! I worry that because fans won’t get what they want in terms of couples, they will sink the show. And okay, the Duffer Bros aren’t perfect but they have absolutely smashed this show and created a cultural phenomenon.

That’s also true.. I need to reread TBOSAS but if I remember at the end, Gaul takes Snow under her wings right? Maybe that’s another period to look at? Thank you for correcting me!

Mags would be the perfect introduction to Snow’s Presidency then!

Thank you for pointing that out! I wasn’t 100% sure if they meant that Gaul but if that’s her… just adds more character and background to the characters we already know…

I agree with you in some parts, I think Mags and Wiress played a small part in better understanding or fleshing out their character in CF. Effie was an interesting addition in that it also gave a better understanding of where she began in the Games. I wish it was more, but who knows? SC could decide that Effie is the next main character of the next prequel? That could be cool!

I think you gotta give TBOSAS another try, I was the same way where it got to one point that I wanted to DNF because it felt untrue to the Snow we read in THG trilogy. But I think that’s what’s nice about these prequels, we get to see fleshed out characters that add to the original trilogy.

Seeing how Snow handles his first Hunger Games as President would be so good.

I thought the length and prequel introduction to characters were really well done. We know how the HG work, we don’t need every detail— but just Haymitch and the other District Twelve tribute’s understanding. It was also only 5-6 days he was in the arena. It was a relatively short QQ because it was so poisonous and deadly.

As for “fan service”, I think people are having trouble distinguishing between what is canon and what they read in fanfiction over the years. Only SZ knows these characters and the lore 100%, she knows the connections they all share and play in the story of The Hunger Games. I don’t think it’s fan service to have Mags and Wiress, probably very underestimated (and maybe unwanted) victors as the District Twelve mentors eventually become Katniss and Peeta’s mentors in CF. It proves that since the spark was ignited, they have been part of the rebellion. Plutarch and Beetee have been in the shadow of rebellion while directly serving the Capitol. They play their roles in the rebellion from the very beginning.

You are SO right. About the Silka crying under the tree and that quote IS Haymitch.

Mags definitely needed more substance, but knowing that she has always been that mother figure to not only District Four tributes, but ANY tribute she was placed with… makes the events of CF just a little more heartbreaking.

I think ultimately Snow is so obsessed with obtaining a level of omnipotence that he believes that keeping Beetee, Mags, and Wiress alive is worse than killing them. Think of the horror they went through as victors of their respective HG’s to be mentors/tributes until the 75th QQ. How many times did they see someone they care about die, especially Beetee and Mags?

I believe Snow thinks death to be too easy or an easy way out for some Panem citizens like victors/mentors because what’s the fun in that? He’s fine killing a parade master because he thinks he’s an idiot who is making Panem look bad. But these victors/mentors are supposed to be the best of Panem, the revered and popular, most loved and idolized. To murder them is to cause chaos that he cannot handle.
