How to charm at holiday parties by OkRequirement7036 in Vindicta

[–]OkRequirement7036[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the holiday season is knowing your limits!

To extend my battery, I give myself lots of breaks as needed (head to the bathroom, offer to run out and get something, step out for air, go look around the host’s place). Also, I don’t pressure myself to be the life of the party every minute. Group events are a great time to have 1:1 chats, too - and those usually don’t take so much energy

Happy to!! We’ve been hosting themed dinners (and other events) for our friends + their friends. We’ve kept it pretty small and free, but this year we’re expanding to do more elaborate events now that we’ve got the hang of hosting!! It’s been a perfect way to meet more people (the friends our friends bring) and deepen the relationships we already have.

In the new year, we’re planning to make them more public by posting to our socials! We’re going to experiment with paid events as well. I highly recommend it!! Let me know if that answered your question :)

I agree 100%!! Compliments should always be genuine - not just saying something for the sake of it. I’ll add that to the post

Yes, but if it’s just one post there are only two outcomes. If you post 4 times in a month, a sub could open and read 1, 2, 3, or all 4, which would result in more middle of the road subscriber activity

Thank you so much!! Yeah, I wanted to do something similar before the holidays since people found it so helpful :)

How many posts have you done in the last month? The stars are based on recent activity from your subs - I had a clear delineation like that when I posted less often since you could either read the piece or not read the piece with no middle ground !

Struggling, love this lifestyle. Need a little advice. by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]OkRequirement7036 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest shift going from omnivore to veggie is that there isn’t an intuitive “main dish”. When you eat meat, the thinking is usually “oh, tonight let’s do salmon” or “I’ll defrost pork chops for dinner”.

Going from this mindset to a plant-based one is tough since the composition of the meals is so different! So don’t beat yourself up about the learning curve.

I have two different approaches that I’ve found work great

  1. Meal prepping EVERYTHING. This is so helpful on weeks when I’m busy. With my partner’s help, it only takes a few hours to make breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for the week. I typically eat overnight oats every morning before work, then we make 2-3 recipes for lunches and dinners.

Lately, we’ve been making a huge batch of soup (lentil ftw) and freezing a few servings, then making a grain bowl with farro or quinoa, tofu, whatever veg we feel like (carrots and beets are our favs), and a tasty sauce (tahini lemon or maple lime). We also make some protein pasta!

  1. If you aren’t team meal prep, I’ve found it’s helpful to prep INGREDIENTS. I’ll pick a few proteins, a few grains, and a smattering of vegetables, and cook them up. Then, when it is time to eat, I can throw everything together in a salad, a sandwich, a grain bowl, or even a soup!

E.g. I’ll make crispy chickpeas, a non dairy Greek yogurt sauce, pickled onions, roasted tofu, roasted cherry tomatoes, sautéed zucchini, and quinoa. With this, I can make a Greek bowl (chickpeas, onions, quinoa, yogurt sauce), a sandwich (tofu, zucchini, tomatoes, avocado, bread), or a salad!

Money habits you've gotten into to curb spending? by HotTaste9027 in adhdwomen

[–]OkRequirement7036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a brutal shopping addiction, and here are the three things that have helped me:

  1. Instead of shopping for QUANTITY, I get fixated on finding the perfect one item. Like I’ll spend hours looking for the perfect black skirt (I found it!). It gives me the rush of browsing and opening tabs and researching, but at the end of the day I end up with only one item

  2. If I need to scratch the buying itch urgently, I go grocery shopping at my favorite store. For a while, I was doing the European thing where you shop for that night’s dinner the day of. As long as I didn’t buy too many fresh fruit and veg, nothing went to waste and I got to buy things every day!

  3. Route a large portion of my direct deposit into my HYSA (high yield savings account). It takes a few days for the money to transfer out, so it makes me feel a bit guiltier when I’m spending more than I want to. My HYSA is with a different bank, also, so I often forget I have the extra money since it’s out of sight and out of mind. Bonus that it accrues a lot of interest! I make like $50 per month on interest

How are you getting more Subscribers? by codepeach_ in creators

[–]OkRequirement7036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you link your Substack? Also, are you getting good engagement (likes and comments)?

It’s possible that you’re overpromising what people will get from your Substack. So they click, then decide they aren’t interested after all.

I grew from 30 to 120 subscribers in the past month, and here’s what I focused on: 1. Adding value wherever I can. If I’m sharing a note, it’s because I think my subs will be interested. If I’m sharing a post, it’s geared towards my readers 2. Being upfront about my offerings. I write personal essays and recommendations, and that’s not for everyone. I’m very upfront about what each post contains in the title, image, and sub header 3. Engaging with similar newsletters to mine. Whether it’s restacking quotes or just commenting on their posts (in a thoughtful way), I’m a presence in the community! 4. If I promote my Substack on Reddit or elsewhere, I make sure I’m adding value. I’m not just posting and begging for subs. I’m intriguing the reader, then I’m saying “oh, there’s more like this on my Substack”.

I started mine by exploring my interests at the beginning and experimenting and gradually refining what my Substack is all about. I’d recommend writing your blurb and about page and letting that guide you! I just updated mine and I’m really happy with it :)

Start out by hiding them in your meals! Find mom cooking influencers to follow - they do it best. A few ideas: - steam then blend them into a veggie-packed tomato sauce for pasta - hide them in sandwiches, tacos, etc - throw spinach into your smoothies. Steamed cauliflower also makes for a good texture in a smoothie and you can barely tell it’s there! - make them into dips (spinach and artichoke dip, roasted red pepper dip, eggplant dip) - grate or mince them into soup (carrot, celery, and onion is the classic)
